I thought if something had been rooted, I could install this OTA/HTC Website update and root it. Can you do that? Or are the people who updated via the website or OTA screwed? To me, this just seems like a rom ported off 2.2.

OK the Wifi Tether isn't working just yet... This update is only a few hours old..give the Wifi Tether devs a minute to fix it, which they will.

And yes, if you installed this or the other update, you are screwed...for now.

+1 on this. NYC here and the update is available. I am fully rooted and running omj rom which might i add is an amazing rom i dont even care to try the others.. Anyway i try to install after downloading and it restarted and halfway it stops what is the deal i must have downloaded it 4-5 times now to keep installing it and it just wont work. Any help guys? omj? greatly appreciated.

I really dont want to do it thru bootloaded mode with the rename to "update" i want the phone to actually do it automatically, i just dont understand why its not doing it. Im being anal i know but i would really like to do it automatically

Double Edit: Tried thru bootloaded after downloading the file on my pc and renaming it to "update" went into bootloaded more and tried to install it but the installation just as it did before aborted.

I'm here in Maryland. Started the update around 3:48am EST. The update is moments away from completing. I'm seeing a bunch of error messages popping up in regards to my hacked Droid X multi-touch keyboard. Keeps saying it "closed unexpectedly". I hope there's no isses.

Anyway, I checked for the update around 1am and it didn't find anything. I checked again about 30 minutes ago... same result. So I decided to jump on here to see what other users were reporting. I saw that someone mentioned you needed to have 4G turned on for it to work. I thought it was worth a shot, so I turned on my 4G, and voila! The update came through immediately. I'm not rooted so I didn't feel the need to hold off.

The update just finished ... still getting the Droid X keyboard error. We'll see what happens. FYI, the entire update took just around 20 minutes. I didn't interrupt the update at all or did I have to reboot or anything. I just let it run its course.

sounds like the same prob tried it 3 times. had to redownload ota each time. anyone else having this problem?

Tried this, no luck. Any idea why I cannot see the update? I had only done the Unrevoked hack. I can download it on my buddy's Evo though...

coming from windows mobile, i just want to say how nice it is to have a device that just works. I've been very busy lately, and simply do not have the time to perform hours and hours of mods, just to get my phone to function decently. im sure i will get bored sometime in the near future and root, but for now, im enjoying the free time i have from NOT toying around with my phone on a daily basis. maybe i will root when 4g comes to milwaukee, just for the hotspot.
