Ok guys, I too was having this issue, and it has nothing to do with update.zip file. I even tried to redownload thinking the file was corrupt.

It seems that with this update, you must first flash to v1.47. I had not done this because I just received a replacement and I knew the update would block the screen capture apps and I didn't want to root. All you need to do is go to Setting->System udates->HTC software updates and click check now. It might take a few tries before it finds the update (took me three tries). It will then ask if you want to download v1.47 blah blah blah. Once you've flashed this version, you can now install froyo from sd card.

Hmm, interesting. I have 1.47 and I too am getting the status 7 upon attempt of installing froyo. Any ideas?

The only thing that I could think that might cause this error is that I am running a custom kernel for the 30 fps cap. Also have it unrEVOked...

1. Download the Android 2.2
2. Rename the file to update.zip and place it on your SD card.
3. Power off your phone then restart it while holding VOLUME DOWN and hit POWER.

You know come to think of it once I did simple root my pri went back to 1.34 as well. I wonder how we can get back to 1.40?
