No, they don't even really know what rooting is. I don't get to involved with them in this regard because most would be to lazy to do their own work and would be having me tinker with it like I'm the phone Dr. Do you have any idea what resulted from these bricked devices as a result of the update? Did they get new ones b/c of an update failure? Just curious if you might have known anyone who had this happen to them or what the end result may have been.

Hello to the artist formerly known as winmonewbie!

The conspirators were testing us to see if we were dedicated to searching for the lost ark and opening the box to eternal freedom. Or they just have to do it for some sort of legal protection from receiving lots of "defective" devices but by being locked/rooted they can post legal disclaimers to the the tune of "you break it you bought it".

Yes and no. I'll assume you are talking about an app like Titanium backup (not critical as it's about the data, not the method of backup).
I used TiBackup for a few things on a Beta of Cyanogen CM6 Froyo.
Any app that is written for Froyo can be restored to the new OS.
Messaging shouldnt be a problem to restore.
Contacts and Calendar backed up through gmail wont be an issue.
Most of the Eclair (2.1) system data will not cuz...it's...2.1 not 2.2
Hope that helps.

Re: Htc froyo updates!

UM.............I would say go ahead and grab the update..........the same scare came when they released the 1.47.....update and that was broken in just a couples days! I really don't see a difference here when we have hard working developers working long hours on this stuff with really no type of compensation other than some donations!

Plus.........most of the 2.2 roms I have tried had something severely wrong with them........things like my phone freezing or the apps I have on my memory card not working.........or even the infamous random memory card formatting! At least with this one we know we're getting something that works right out the box...................and 2.2 is like........80 times faster than 2.1.........its like a custom rom itself.....I mean......better EVERYTHING!

Last but not least...........if they can make a rooted stock 2.2 rom for the evo than wouldn't that mean they already found how to hack the update?!?!?!?!

Because when the stock rooted 2.1 roms for the evo came out the evo was already rooted!

Seems to me like if you get the update than reroot your phone and put a custom 2.2 rom on the phone.......that you're putting the same thing right back on the phone.......because I really don't see a difference in the stock and custom 2.1 roms other than the hotspot app.........I still can't tether with usb and ATK works A LOT BETTER on the stock roms!

Just my $10 though.........nothing personal.......I'll be the Guinea Pig if you guys want me to..............I mean.......I was gonna get the update anyway so...................
