Re: Small Crack Near Power Button (Betcha if you check you'll have one) *With Pic*
I've had mine since launch day & have never used a case. No cracks, dust under screen, screen lifting, or anything else people have had issues with. I do have an awesome phone though!!

But yes I do agree it is caused by NORMAL use of the power button. Usually caused by pressing the phone on or off using the power button from the front. I have had to change my method pressing the button from behind, so not to cause any pressure on the plastic of the casing between the power button and the speaker, since it is not fully supported at the edge. as for people experiencing the cracks on the volume area,, we can't apply the same explanation. Dropping it just in case IMO can not cause the cracks pictured. -CC P.S. No I don't think he has, at least not the full thread and perhaps based his reply on one or two posts at most..

The chords for the Evo display do not auto retract. Ive had at least 30 people just let go of the phone and have it come crashing into our glass case

No crack here (0002), no case or shield since launch day. Thank you for this thread, now I'm aware and will be even more careful, if that's possible.
As anal as I am about my phone, even if I do develop the crack I don't know that it would be enough for me to seek a replacement. I'm very happy with my phone and don't have any of the issues others have had. The EVO is truly the best phone I've owned. (As a phone and a gadget)

Again I don't know how people are adding "dropping the phones" to creating this "slit".. it has NOTHING to do with dropping it. It is caused by the simple pressing of the power button, eventually the front area will develop a slit/crack, since it is thin, the power button on most don't have the tactile feel and the area is not supported since the speaker area is indented.. -CC |

2 cracks, never dropped HW003
I've had them for at least 2 weeks. Hardly noticeable. I think these are more like stress fractures rather than something that happens or happened due to a drop. I didn't bother trying for a exchange since I figured Sprint would claim I dropped it. However, as I said, these aren't the type of cracks you get from drops. These are too clean.
