well for 1 the "slit" is behind the power button and there is plenty of support except right underneath the area the the cracks develop (where the speaker is).

the picture I posted on the same page as your post is of a DEMO UNIT from the Corporate Sprint Store. It can't be dropped as it is tethered to the display casing.

But yes I do agree it is caused by NORMAL use of the power button. Usually caused by pressing the phone on or off using the power button from the front.

I have had to change my method pressing the button from behind, so not to cause any pressure on the plastic of the casing between the power button and the speaker, since it is not fully supported at the edge.

as for people experiencing the cracks on the volume area,, we can't apply the same explanation.

Dropping it just in case IMO can not cause the cracks pictured.

P.S. No I don't think he has, at least not the full thread and perhaps based his reply on one or two posts at most..

The chords for the Evo display do not auto retract. Ive had at least 30 people just let go of the phone and have it come crashing into our glass case

Thumbs up Re: Official frame cracking thread

No crack here (0002), no case or shield since launch day. Thank you for this thread, now I'm aware and will be even more careful, if that's possible.

As anal as I am about my phone, even if I do develop the crack I don't know that it would be enough for me to seek a replacement. I'm very happy with my phone and don't have any of the issues others have had. The EVO is truly the best phone I've owned. (As a phone and a gadget)

The security systems on these demo units I have pictured do auto retract, so did the ones at two other stores I visited.

Again I don't know how people are adding "dropping the phones" to creating this "slit".. it has NOTHING to do with dropping it.

It is caused by the simple pressing of the power button, eventually the front area will develop a slit/crack, since it is thin, the power button on most don't have the tactile feel and the area is not supported since the speaker area is indented..

Re: Official frame cracking thread

4 Evo's since launch day and not one crack in the frame of any part of this phone. Generally i had Evo's screen protectors and body gloves from day one but i have occassionally dropped one or two of my Evo's one time or another and still not defects or frames issues to date.

Re: Official frame cracking thread

Why so many EVOs? I am so fortunate to not really have any issues...I do have some light leakage at the bottom, but I've been using a protective glove since day one so I don't notice. I am fine as long as my screen is perfect and it doesn't fall apart.
