I feel exactly the same way about rooting. I rooted specifically for the free hotspot. I feel/saw no need for other reasons to root. If I had the hotspot from the beginning i wouldnt have even rooted to begin with. I do like the stock rom.....

Yeah, the sprint crapware gets on my nerves too, except for Telnav GPS. It works great for me and it doesn't have that 1 to 2 block delay like the Diamond and TP had.

What I did was, I got the TP and insurance and waited 2 months then reported it lost through ins. I paid 100 bucks and they sent me a new one meaning now I have 2. I used the old one to flash roms (test bed), like you said, because stock sucked. But honestly, the only rom I liked was mighty rom because everything worked with stability to a point. But it was the little bugs that just kept eating at me. So I flashed 20 different roms and during all that flashing, I missed an important phone call and didn't get the VM till a day later (I know, I could have gave another number) but I wasn't expecting to make flashing an all day project. After that I said I was done. Flashed stock and kept it that way. It works. It still works. The other TP I have mighty rom 6 with titanium on it and use it as a music player only.

For now though, and YEAH, I'M BEING LAZY (directed towards Fusion) I just don't want to root it. I will maybe later after all the kinks and stuff get worked out of the new roms but my EVO right now loves me.....

I think to insinuate that you shouldn't have bought the phone if you weren't going to root is a load of garbage. Some don't need a custom ROM to be happy. Rooting your phone doesn't make you cool.

Funny, I literally said the exact same thing yesterday. If 4G was in my area, I'd consider it. Otherwise it's fine for me totally stock.

Re: Who really sees a need to root this phone?

I don't have a need to root yet. Did so on the titan and touch pro. Hero was snappy enough for what I used it for that I didn't feel a need to root either.

So the processor makes the biggest difference for me.

I have my TP for wifi, but realistically, I wouldn't want to use the evo for wifi tethering because of battery life. It isn't that great for the TP (especially with the heat it generates) but it works in a pinch. Then again, I also have 2 phones with me. So it really depends on your situation.

The only reason I was thinking about rooting was because I read that in order to install some programs on droid you need to have root. But so far all of the programs i've been testing out (developing) have worked just fine as is.

Though, there might be a day where I do have a need so we'll see then what happens. For now, it's good stock!
