Those are good points, but I don't need to tether anything at this time. I have 4 PC's and a laptop (one hardwired and all the others wifi'd) and they don't leave the house. SO there's no real point. If I took my lappie with me somewhere that didn't have wifi, then it would be handy n dandy, but it doesn't leave the house either.

Sense, I happen to like sense, and dollars too, but that's another issue. Seriously though, I like sense UI, But that is my preference. It's not for everyone though.

Just like the OP. I have two TP's and I flashed every rom there was known to man on to them and not one of them worked to my liking. Some had great speed but had GPS issues, video issues, webpage issues, etc. Some were slow and had few bugs but msging was whacky. The devs worked thier ass off for us though and it was greatly appreciated. But I found that even though stock was a beast....it worked.

Re: Who really sees a need to root this phone?

For me, right now, I haven't the desire to root. I did initially but each ROM I tried had something goofy (I tried about 6). I went back to root just before the last OTA.

Living in 4G country, I've not stumbled across anything I know for sure I can get 4G after the last OTA. And I'm not prone to have to jump thru hoops to make it work. I agree with Zone/Droidrox that it's a damn shame HTC/Sprint closed a few doors...but I look at AT&T and their virtually Android lock-down and consider myself lucky I am with Sprint.

I don't tether so that is not something pushing me to root. I've messed with a few widgets, so Sense is marginally acceptable to me at present. I think once Froyo is released for EVO (I'm betting mid-July) then I might reconsider rooting. By that time ROMs will be stable and I can "play" like I did with WinMo. Android is a much different animal than WinMo, so "bloatware" doesn't concern me as much as it did with my TP2.

But for now, the phone runs great, I get awesome 4G coverage and and somewhat happy with the "look". So I'll just stay content until Froyo.

In 6 months when your sick of looking at Sense you will just be stuck even WM had the ability to boot into Titanium. This is exactly what I told Sprint. So thats my take. Plus when Sprint stops updating the phone it will be left to the developers here and at XDA to take over. Sprints updating the phone now but after Froyo they probably wont, then what?
Actually to quote myself you can install "Launcher Pro" and load just Android. HTC just took out the loader you can install the other from the Market. So thats one less reason to root for me.

@Vegasden I guess I'm just confused (zone/droidrox39)...

Some of the widgets I love need root. Also, as my family says, I wouldn't be me if I wasn't screwing with my phone.

yeah sad to say but the only other phones running stock as well as this are Nexus One (better IMO cuz of no sprint crapware) and the iPhone 4.

I have to admit that my HD2 is looking awesome, but stock is was not cool at all, I had a ROM flashed on it within 2 days.

It just doesn't feel right to have a device that can be hacked but isn't. It doesn't matter if its a phone, IPod, or a Thermometer. If it can be hacked I am obligated to do it .

Re: Who really sees a need to root this phone?

When I got my TP2 I was late to the game, so there was A LOT of well developed stuff floating around. Plus WM 6.5 stock sucked on the TP2. I initally unlocked and flashed out of necessity.

I think I'm one of the fortunate minority here who has zero issues: No screen lift, no light leak, etc. While lifting the 30 fps issue is tempting, I'm giong to wait until things get worked out more. Phone is a month old, froyo is coming soon (I hope!), so by the end of the year, I expect a lot of good things from the developers here and at XDA.

For right now, I enjoy not having to worry or fuss with my phone.
