Re: Who really sees a need to root this phone?
When I first got the phone it didn't seem all that necessary to root. Now after the latest update and HTC removing my ability to launch android without Sense I feel the need to do it. I did not buy an HTC OS I bought and Android OS. I will not be at the mercy of HTC even though they made the phone. That is reason enough to root. In 6 months when your sick of looking at Sense you will just be stuck even WM had the ability to boot into Titanium. This is exactly what I told Sprint. So thats my take. Plus when Sprint stops updating the phone it will be left to the developers here and at XDA to take over. Sprints updating the phone now but after Froyo they probably wont, then what?

Re: Who really sees a need to root this phone?
I am fully rooted (parts 1 and 2) and enjoy the custom ROMs, freedom from Sprint's bloatware, free wifi tethering, titanium backup for my apps and setcpu and autokiller for more free resources and better battery life. I also enjoy the freedom of theming Rosie, the taskbar, lock screen and the dialer.
But, in truth, I rooted the EVO for the same reason that I rooted my Moment and Hero: because I could. All the other stuff was just a bonus.

Re: Who really sees a need to root this phone?
No need to root here. My phone runs, works, plays, and everything inbetween that I need and want it to do. After a few months or so, I might get bored and root it just because I can. As of now though, I don't see the need.

Of course I'm rooted. How else am I able to make programming changes to the kernel and boot them?

Re: Who really sees a need to root this phone?
I haven't rooted my phone yet. I may wait a while. I don't want to root, to only have a basically stock rom. I want Froyo, fully functional, with 4G (I'm in a 4G area, although I rarely use it), and the camera working. Until that happens, there's no incentive for me to root.
The only reason I rooted my Hero, was because Sprint/HTC took what felt like forever to get us the 2.1 update. Plus, I was waiting on an overclocked rom, once I heard toast was working on OC'ing the hero. Once the perfect storm occurred (no official update, and an OC'd 2.1 rom was released), that was all I needed.

Re: Who really sees a need to root this phone?
One of the other reasons I didnt care to root was because every single friggn rom I used for my TP and Moguel had some sort of huge issue. I can't think of a single rom that didn't have something that didn't seriously screw up my daily use of the phone. 99% of the time it had to do with texting and the slowness of it all.
Do these rooted roms have any issues at all yet? |

Re: Who really sees a need to root this phone?
i have yet to root. the only reason why i rooted my hero is because it was entirely too slow. right now, i am content with the "shackles," however, i do see myself rooting in the future!!!

To me rooting is like overclocking your computer if you can why the hell not.
Evo runs faster rooted i think and no sprintware is cool as well and custom roms woot! ill admit that out of all the phones ive had the Evo runs ok stock Last edited by Karl; 07-01-2010 at 02:02 PM. |
