What is the real difference between 002 / 003

I have an 002, the screen has no purple tint and the colors are great imo...the only time it seems to have any off tint on the white is at less than full brightness... There is a slight yellow tint at that point but it is not bad, go do it to your laptop or desktop lcd. That will be the case for any lcd under its full brightness.

The only other way I could think of compensating is if there were a color temp setting.

I do like being able to adjust displays for max comfort or for color matching seems these big displays should be coming with those options in the settings now.

Mine also has an elevated power button.

Edit: actually after really paying attention my whites are really white except for text fields such as where I am typing this...

my understanding is.. all 003 hw are epson screens and only some of the 002's are the rest of the 002's are nova screens

a little bird also told me that those of us with the 002's can get 003's as soon as production gets going again under warranty please dont quote me on the warranty's we all know what those little birds are full of, but figured i'd spit my $0.02 at ya

hmm, i see what you're saying if it looks that yellow in person as it does on the video. Mine doesnt do that. It changes to a different shade of white because of the reflection at the angle, but it's not yellow at all. I have a 0003.

btw i can only see the yellow in that video when u show and tilt the white web page. And does the grey unlock bar turn purple when you tilt too? or is that just the background showing through the black/grey bar.

I don't see a real issue with there yellow at a steep angle, realistically no one would or should be tilting that far.

So unless the normal viewing angle is bothering you don't worry imo.

Listen guys, if it bothers you, get it changed out. It's that simple. No matter what the problem. Some people will never be happy, even after the 4th or 5th phone. Some people are just like this. Some people can care less about quality. There screen could be coming off with a purple and yellow tint. And they just deal with it. It's up to you. I agree to some extent with both arguements. If you bought a car and it had a yellow tint looking through the windshield when you looked towards the right, you would say something to the dealership, or would pick another. If someone told you not to look to your right and it won't matter, you'd tell them to go F* themselves and you would get it taken care of. If the doors didn't seal, and you could hear road noise real bad, or rain was getting in, you buddy wouldn't tell you to just turn up the radio and then you couldn't hear it. You would get it taken care of. End of story. Also, it don't matter if the car/phone cost $50 or $50000. If it's not right, it's not right.

Now, this can be taken to the extreme. You have to be your own judge. You could get a replacement that is worse. Doesn't make it right, but it could be.

with htc this is a high possibility. i only return if i exhibit the worst defects.

The 1st EVO I had freezing problems where it freezes randomly and would require me to pull the battery to reboot it. I had put up with this 3 weeks and couldn't take it anymore, exchanged it for another EVO, and noticed the LCD.. well sucked. I also got two more EVO's via upgrade, those EVO's had nice LCD's. This is what I found:


1st HTC EVO - 002 with Novatec Screen (super bright, vivid colors, whites are white)
2nd HTC EVO - 003 with Novatec Screen (not as bright, washed out colors, yellowish whites)
3rd HTC EVO - 003 with Novatec Screen (super bright, vivid colors, whites are white)
4th HTC EVO - 003 with Novatec Screen (super bright, vivid colors, whites are white)


I didn't care whether they have Novatec or Epson screens, just as long as the LCD's were bright and vivid. I will be taking the washed out LCD EVO back to Best Buy and show them how it sucked compared to my other EVO's. I read that Epson screens can have washed out colors, but from what I found, Novatec's can have washed out colors and as well. It even had yellowish whites.

I have an 003 Novatec. When I set brightness of my laptop and phone to full, and compare a screenshot of my phone on the laptop with the live image on the phone, it looks identical. So maybe it's just my eyes, but it proves my Dell Latitude E6400 (with an Nvidia graphics chipset) displays colors pretty much the same as my phone. I'm pretty happy with that.

If I lower the brightness to below the 50% threshold, then I start to notice some slight off-color hues, which is completely expected, because I'm using less power to the display. The same thing happens to ALL displays. Don't believe me, try it with your TV or monitor. My decision to lower the brightness to roughly 40% is a conscious choice I make to preserve my battery life and if I want to watch videos or do something graphically intensive, I'll raise it back up on an as-needed basis.

If you're at 100% brightness and colors are off, THEN by all means seek out a replacement unit. Some, but not all, of these complaints are user misconceptions and perception of what they have versus what they expected.
