Re: Wireless N support unlocked on the HTC Evo

I can certainly understand using it in your case, but I would also call your circumstances far from typical day to day for the majority of the users on this forum. 100% with you on a higher signal using less power, WiFi or otherwise, but I'm curious, does the system use a 5GHz setup or a 2.4GHz N setup? In my experiences 5GHz N hasn't improved signal quality over what I was getting with 2.4GHz G, especially through walls.

Dual-radio, so I can run both. I think it's more of a trade off... you either get greater distance, lousy signal penetration, or greater signal penetration over less distance.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps10980/index.html .. in case you're interested in the specific AP's. Certainly not your typical Linksys or Netgear stuff, lol.

Re: Wireless N support unlocked on the HTC Evo

OK I've searched and searched. How do you install the zip as an update. Yea I'm a Android noob but been using Linux long enough to know that the instructions are always written with some "implied knowlege."

How da heck to I get this "EVO_Enable_Wireless_N.zip" to my damed phone!?

With 802.11n it really depends on the amount of Transmit and Receive antenna's in the phone. Most Cisco's(Enterprise stuff not Linksys) are 2x3 MIMO. Most cheaper stuff is 2x3 or less. Motorola stuff is 3x3, but is more for the enterprise market. Also alot of the cheaper (home stuff) has a lower transmit power, where as the Cisco and Motorola stuff have higher transmit power. (Cisco being 100mw, and Motorola has some stuff that goes higher around 200mw) So it depends on your router and what the EVO has with antennas.

Re: Wireless N support unlocked on the HTC Evo

OK I'm going insane!!!!!!

My phone is fully rooted. My question is how to I install the zip to the device to enable N mode. I tried the command prompts but I can only get to this line:
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system

At which point, I'm clueless.

That is why I would like to just install a nice little ZIP. BUT I have no idea how to do so.

Assuming, of course, that you still have the EVO-Recovery tools in your C: drive, drop the necessary ZIP file on your SDCard, and then connect by USB as HTC Sync...

Start > Run > c:\evo-recovery\adb-windows reboot recovery
... phone reboots to EVO recovery display, and you'll hear the device connected sound in Windows ...

Start > Run > c:\evo-recovery\recovery-windows.bat
... Recovery Menu appears ...

Flash from ZIP file... choose the appropriate zip.

Note: Start > Run can, if not showing on your Start menu, be invoked by WinKey + R

Re: Wireless N support unlocked on the HTC Evo

OK for all of you idiots like myself, this is the answer:

1) Place zip on SD
2) Boot into bootloader
3) Choose "Recovery"
4) Choose "Flash from SD card"

File should be there.

Well that only took me 2 hrs to figure out.

Indeed.

bigdaddie, HTC_nut asked the same question earlier that I had already answered! Read the posts!
