Re: EVERYTHING EVO - Rooting | NAND | Flashing Roms | Wipe

I greatly appreciately all the work everyone did to provide this to us. Thank you. I have a question though. I followed the instructions posted over at [GUIDE] One Click How to Root EVO with Unrevoked 3.21 - xda-developers (unrEVOked3) and then ran the command c:\evo-recovery\adb-windows shell after placing that folder on my c:\ but I did not give me the # prompt, su did not work either I was denied. Now I am going to try your section 1 and 2 methods. I am going to be using the PC methods as I have not activated the phone yet. I am going to be using Metro PCS and I believe I will need to root the phone first and possibly flash it for use with Metro PCS. I have the CDMA toolkit and QPST and A-key calc. but before I get to all that I would like to know if I am even supposed to use the method for other than HBOOT 2.02 as I have HBOOT 2.10.0001; Android V 2.2; kernel V 2.632.14-qee557fd; BUild 3.70.651.1; Hardware V 0003; Baseband V 2.15.00.11.19.
Can I just continue to use section 1 and 2 after I already ran unrEVOked3 with the mod driver? And am I using the correct method for my HBOOT V 2.10.0001?

Re: EVERYTHING EVO - Rooting | NAND | Flashing Roms | Wipe

Just wanted to know, when you root your phone, does it erase all your setting and programs that are currently on both your SD card and phone? If so how can I back up all my data to my laptop?

Re: EVERYTHING EVO - Rooting | NAND | Flashing Roms | Wipe

First, I have had the same samsung flip phone for 5 years. I decided to upgrade. I bought an HTC EVO 4G on ebay. I had a problem activating on Sprint network. Took the phone to Sprint. They said it has been Jail Broke, and has software called "Fresh". They were able to activate. After reading I understand most likely the phone has been rooted instead of Jailbroken. Should this concern me? Will this still do the things an HTC EVO 4G should do.

Nothing to worry about...
Jailbroken = Rooted (same thing)

Jailbreaking usually refers to iPhones, were as on a Android device, you're technically trying to gain "root" access so it's normally called "rooting".

The fact that Sprint told you it was "jailbroken" should give you create comfort in knowing that you have a great community on here to help you w/ your phone because most (not all) Sprint employees are clueless.

It's kind of like taking your PC to a PC repair shop because your wifi isn't working and the tech tells you that he can fix it for you and you'll be back on the internets watching the youtube in no time.
Yes, those words are associated w/ PC technology, but the fact that they misuse them, wouldn't give you much confidence in their ability to fix you pc.

Re: EVERYTHING EVO - Rooting | NAND | Flashing Roms | Wipe

I sure hope this is the right place for this.

I have an EVO that I rooted with UNREVOKED about a month ago.

Yesterday afternoon, I tried to flash to the new MYN, VIRUS etc Synergy Rom with the cool Sense UI, BUT!! Dumb me, who was up working all night long was not reading correctly and flashed the ROM for the HTC Incredible. I flashed the right one(for the EVO) the prior night ...it worked great...decided that I wanted it and was going to go back to what I had, do a titanium backup so I could put my apps on the new cool Synergy Rom

Yeah Yeah I know, dumb thing..I've already beat myself up enough. LOL

I obviously got an error. So, then I tried to restore my Nandroid backups that I had previously made, but these now caused errors too..which they never had before.

I pulled the battery and then couldn't even get into clockwork mod, I just went to the white HTC screen.

I was thankfully able to flash Clockwork MOD to at least be able to get into a recovery screen.

I did so, and flashed my Myn 2.2 ROM which thankfully installed.

Today, I went back to try to flash the Synergy ROM that I had originally wanted to flash and the flash was complete.

HOWEVER, when I rebooted, it just kept going to the white HTC screen, hanging and then rebooting to the white HTC screen over and over.

I tried to start all over by doing a data wipe/factory restore and to wipe the Dalvik Cache, and the regular cache..

When I did this, I got an error trying to flash the Dalvek Cache:
E:Can't mount/dev/block/mmcb1k0p2
File exists.

I was at least able to get back to my Myn 2.2
I requested help on the EVO forum and was told to change to Amon RA.

I successfully flashed the Supersonic Amon RA recovery mod

I wiped the data, cache, Dalvik Cache, and android security and I tried to flash the ROM from here and the same problem happened again...the little indicator bar didn't go all the way to the end and it said that the flash from the zip was complete. I rebooted to the same white HTC screen that turns off..reboots...white HTC screen, reboots etc.

So..my problems are that I can't restore my old CWM Nandroid backups (while I had CWM) and I can't Flash this new ROM.

The crazy thing is that it worked beautifully the night before last, and the only reason I went back to my MYN Warm 2.2 was so that I could make a titanium backup. I went back to the INCREDIBLE page (unknowingly) and thought that it was a new and updated ROM so I got rid of the right one and flashed the wrong one! Hey...I was up delivering babies all night so I was tired..so go easy on me.

Am I hosed or is this something that can be fixed?

Thanks in advance.

Mike
