Re: Why do I feel like an idiot trying to hack my new EVO 4G?
Well you definitely didn't read all of them...
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/cdma-htc-e...hefs-only.html for example..these things should be posted in general not upgrades. Android is actually fairly simple to hack...its just a little tricky on the Evo because rooting depends on your hardware revision. Moved

Basicly you will be a superuser (su).Full access to the sys.
Some apps require that, like wi-fi router

Re: Why do I feel like an idiot trying to hack my new EVO 4G?
Theres no "hacking" in Android, its open source Once you get root enabled, you can pretty much do anything you want if you know *nix.
If you really want to learn how to work in the Android environment, its crazy easy since its perfectly legal, (another benefit of open source), and 95% of all standard *nix commands work in it. Heres some good places to start: Android Developers Get the SDK and play away using the virtual development environment. Theres also a metric crap ton of tutorials on the web for Linux.

Just update your evo with the latest ota update like someone recommended and either wait for the latest unrevoked to become official or use the beta version. I used the beta version of 3.22 couple months ago and it was my first time rooting coming from tp2 unlocked. Unrevoked is your best friend.

Re: Why do I feel like an idiot trying to hack my new EVO 4G?
A lot of production apps require Root. Root lets you remove bloatware, add custom Roms and kernels. This allows you to extend battery life.
As a side effect, it also has the same effect as six months of Extendz.
