EVERYTHING EVO - Latest Rooting | NAND | Flashing Roms | Wipe

Please someone help! I am very much a n00b, although I did successfully ROOT my first evo that I got on release day via toasts method. Since then I have gotten a new evo due to the screen issue, and I can't root it. I've tried toasts, simpleroots, and tried both multiple times.

The main hangup I am getting via toasts now is when i reboot recovery in one of the last steps, the phone reboots and i get the black screen with the disk drive and the red triangle with the ! in it. No matter what I, I can't get into recovery. I'm trying to flash to OMJ. What does that symbol mean, and what do I need to do differently?

When you hold Vol Down and press the Power button that puts you into bootloader (could also call that hboot). From there you can select fastboot, recovery, clear storage, simlock, hboot usb. So when you say "fastloader" which option were you looking for? Did you mean you were trying to boot directly into Recovery? You cant do that via the Power and Vol Down buttons. You CAN do that (if your nand is unlocked) with the quickboot app or by selecting Reboot into Recovery in ROM Manager.

When I press Volume Down and Power button, it goes right into the hboot. I dont haave a chance to select which one I want to do

ok i apologize first off for what is probally a stupid mistake but i am new to the evo and rooting anything actually..


i followed the instructions here http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.p...&postcount=792


i just got my evo on friday so it has all the newest sprint updates and stuff


everything went fine up to part 5q. i got something similar to the code that pops up after 5q. mine varied a lil like it said it would


i did part 5r and that worked fine as well


5s is where i got problems. i typed the code like you said but i got a message on the command window that says this:


chmod: no such file or directory

755: no such file or directory


i continued to part 5t and it did everything but it did not ask me to start update...it said update failed do you want to reboot.


this is where i am stuck at...i read a little into the thread after that post but i am still confused. i am guessing i am partially rooted but not completely. if you could help me get passed this part that would be awesome.. Thanks again!!!

I assume you mean you DL'd Simple root? If so go back and read the instructions in that thread. They tell you how to run that program.

If you are running the latest OTA software then you CANT use Toast's method or the original Simple root.
You need to follow this tutorial from the steps labled "Rooting after OTA 1.47"
(steps start with #5) or the 1.47 Simple root found here

That's exactly what it's supposed to do. THEN you have the options....
You dont see the options I listed?

New to the forum and I apologize if this has already been discussed but I haven't had the time to read all posts.

I am wondering if rooting causes any issues with 4G? I want to root my phone but not if 4G won't work after.

I see the options for like a second. Then it automatically goes into hboot, then it scans for files and asks if i would like to upgrade PC36.IMG. I don't have a chance to select the other options

I put the files on I have turned phone off I started the phone and NOTHING. Why don't I get the option "TO START UPDATE"? I simply go back to the menu that shows up before the card is read. My card also gets read very fast. Maybe took 3 or 4 secs.

Sorry didnt mean to confuse you. but, yeah i want to go back to the RA way, i like that one. seems easy for me. I tried what you said and its grayed out. seems not available for me. any ideas? thanks.
