I needed that fix too.

FYI - I'm going to be redoing parts of the Tutorial to add the info about SimpleRoot.

I finally got around to trying it. I used it on a PC w/ XP and one w/ Win7. Didn't have any issues. Also, looking at the code behind SimpleRoot, he addresses the issue of the error at 5N if it happens.

I was going to replace the method I have and just tell people to root w/ SimpleRoot and then come back to learn the other stuff, but yesterday, someone on XDA thanked be for the tutorial because they were on a Mac. SimpleRoot doesn't work w/ a Mac, so having the steps in ADB helped that guy get things done.

2.) What mode of Sync do I need to be in? I know I place the USB in Debug but do I connect as Disk Only, Charge or HTC Sync. I am asking this because, for some reason, I am unable to sync to my PC. The sync app starts on my EVO and tries to connect but eventually fails. I used to be able to synch but have not been able to tonight.

I will wait for a little more clarity before I try this.
Thanks
I just did my phone last night and honestly it was not too difficult at all

1 - yes you will have a rooted copy of OTA 1.47.651.1 but you must download one and have it ready. Do a Google search or I think OMJ has the rooted version I used.. sorry not at home to check

2- Charge - Also go to the HTC Website and get the latest HTC Sync I had the same issue you had prior to rooting

Follow all his directions and the help ppl give in the forums and all should be well. If your phone has problems being recognized a fellow xda guy said open up a browser window then close it and all will be well. He was right...

From beginning to end took bout an hour to do plus I watched youtube vidz on what to do as well

I strongly suggest when you get to the recovery part you do a NAND Backup it saved me

Thanks for the advise. I downloaded the Sprint_Lovers_Evo_7.12.10_ZIP.zip . It is a rooted OTA with removable apps and upgraded radios. I don't know if I can use it so I with this GUI. I guess I will post that question over there.

I posted this link already, but here it is again.
I recommend everyone after rooting follows these steps.

Re: Re: Root new OTA with 4 clicks!

Your pc36 file is messed up.if you had tried a different method before make sure you delete those old files.also step one takes a while to "push files"so make sure you wait for the complete message.

Re: [TUTORIALS] EVO Full Root|OTA Root|Nand Backup/Restore|Flashing|for n00b's + vide

I started with section 5, went great no problems. I had # at the cmd line after, I flashed the rooted stock Rom to start with.

Is there anything else I need to do or am I good to go? I saw on Xda there was a part 2, I guess that step (unlock nand protection) was already done/included in the steps from this thread? thanks so much....

Edit: think I answered my own question. I rebooted into recovery and was able to backup through the nandroid menu.

Yes, Fast's tutorial takes you all the way through Part II.
You're golden Bro. Happy Flashing.
