You can chuck the Nand backups and make a new one of your current ROM but I'd always have at least one handy in case you break something
They have nothing to do with maintaining root.

I've heard Damage Control is good but the reloading sounds like a 1) wipe issue-did you do each (Factory reset and Dalvic) twice? or 2) a ROM issue. Try OMJ's even if it's just a test-it's rock solid.
When you say it wont read the PC36IMG.zip do you mean the 2nd one for getting past NAnd?
If that's what you meant, did you go through the steps listed for placing and installing the flash_image file and the mtd-eng file?

Yes, I wiped twice, Factory and Dalvic... both twice... and then I loaded the rom... I will try a different one...

Yeah...........like winmo said........the second PC36IMG file you have to rename because it should have an "eng-" in front of it! Also you need the flash_image file, the mtd-eng file and the recoevery file on your sd card all at the same time! You also have to rename the recovery file because it has stuff in front of the word "recovery," just erase everything before that!

Re: EVO Full Root|Recovery|Nand Backup/Restore|Flashing for n00b's Instructions & Vid

ok... Guys.. thanks for the help... but honestly... I did what the instructions said...
I renamed the 1st pc36IMG file back to something like OLD... and after I rooted the phone.
Then I copied the new one, the eng-pc36img file and renamed it to pc36img... the phone REFUSES to load that one... telling me that the version is older...
So I am unable to go forward, in regards to the NAND stuff, unless you are TELLING me that I need to have the other 3 files on the drive, before I start to load the ENG-pc6img file...
I think I was able to do the ABD and then the copy to the RAM of the 3 other files, but it filled up my memory...so I had to wipe and factory reset...
Just a lot of weirdness...

Any file explorer should do it. Just navigate to your SD card on the phone.
I'm on OMJ and he has Android Mate installed, works great.

You COULD mount your phone/card via USB and pull/delete the files that way.
If you wanted to be super safe you could pull the files off your card and keep them on your PC in a folder called (whatever) NandBackups. You can rename the Nand files as well so you could have a OMJNand and a FreshNand, and.....that way if you ever wanted to jump back to a different ROM you'd just wipe and restore the back up.

EDIT: Just read something that said renaming the Nand backup may cause issues, just an fyi.

Not very specific, just mentions it in passing.

Re: EVO Full Root|Recovery|Nand Backup/Restore|Flashing for n00b's Instructions & Vid

Seems like you skipped a lot of steps! You have to have all four of those file on your sd card, just erase the old PC36IMG file because its not needed anymore! Put the new ones on your card (after giving them the right names), than connect the usb to your phone and select "HTC Sync"..................

YES! You have to have and install the other files before you try to get the new PC36IMG to go.
QUOTE:
" Download all files posted above
- unzip the flash_image.zip and the mtd-eng.zip and put the flash_image.img and mtd-eng.img on the root of your sdcard

3) Connect the phone to the pc using HTC Sync, open a "run" window by hitting the Windows key + "R" in the command line type (or cut/paste)
Code:
c:\evo-recovery\adb-windows shell
then hit "OK"
In the window that opens, type:
Code:
cat /sdcard/flash_image > /data/flash_image
chmod 755 /data/flash_image
/data/flash_image misc /sdcard/mtd-eng.img
This should only take a second or two

- now put the PC36IMG.zip on the root of your sdcard
- power off the phone"

THEN you run the new PC36IMG.zip
THEN you run the recovery file. (check the tutorial for details)

EDIT: it's saying it's older because you dont have the other two files in place. HTC Sync IS NOT NEEDED. Make sure USB Debugging is checked and Charge only will work. (if you can get a ROM to load that is)
