I wouldn't plan on seeing a keyboard like the TP2 for quite a while. HTC hit perfection there, and then dropped keyboards altogether. No other company has ever had such a nice keyboard though so I would not expect to see one unless HTC makes it (which seems like a slim to none possibility).

If Motorola (and/or anyone else) has a lot of success with keyboards though, maybe HTC will try to copy/beat them instead of focusing on the iPhone.

And who knows anyway? We might see an Android device with a body style like the TP2 but with beefed up specs.
Well Verizon kinda needed something to fight the iPhone with..and they chose the Motorola Droid. My guess is Motorola is giving the phone cheaply to verizon due to the fact when it came out..motorola mobile division was almost dead so they probably were desperate as well.

As for a future TP2 with better specs that would be awesome..but if HTC tries to copy something..they better not make their keyboards like the droid lol

But by the looks of it Motorola and Samsung are releasing a bunch of phones...Whats taking LG so long :/

Re: one design problem with the evo

Well HTC tried the keyboard thing with the G1 and correct me if im wrong, they havent had one on android since.

Like I said, if your big on a keyboard, maybe those who need it should wait for the Moment 2 or Motorola or LG to come out with 1.

There is no way to make the perfect device for everyone. Some will want a keyboard, some wont. Some will want a huge screen, some wont. I personally wish i could keep my unlimited incoming plan and get this phone with 4g but life is filled with sacrifices.

A phone that automatically resizes with detachable keyboard? lol

Why can't you keep your unlimited incoming?

HTC could easily make a keyboard version and a non keyboard version (like they did with the Touch Diamond and Touch Pro series). That would satisfy everyone.

but it doesn't mean both would sell well, people will probably get the non keyboard one just cuz they want to be like iphone users, and people like us, who are avid fone fans will get a keyboard version...plu sit helps if you already own a TP2 lol

Yes, lets breath and move on. But if you're going to throw parting shots in then at least make sure they're accurate. Half an inch is 1.27 cm. The size difference is not anywhere close to that.
yes alot! (1.7mm) its about as smack dab in between the two as someone could tell at arms length. you keep getting caught up on the measurements steaming from one over exaggeration, the only point that really matters is it IS noticable and does affect pocket storage. (the tp2 as is shows signs its there the tp1 and mogul and diamond did not)

not really true i used to be a keyboard fanatic like u guys but i got used to the fact of not having an almost 1" thick brick in my pocket.
with more and more advances of touchscreen you will see less and less hardware keyboard. except for bb failed attempt at the tactile feedback keyboard on the storm series. i can type just as fast on a software keyboard than i could on my hardware i just have to look at the thing now.

Well again, I'll just point out that the Motorola Droid totally destroyed the HTC Droid Eris in sales numbers. So a lot of people obviously want a keyboard. HTC keeps trying to pretend nobody wants one, and some people actually believe it. But the Motorola Droid sales numbers when compared to the Droid Eris- which is actually cheaper and has similar functionality, prove otherwise.

I don't think I could ever be as fast on a virtual keyboard as a real keyboard, but speed is only part of it anyway.

There is also the fact that your viewing area doesn't shrink when you type something if you have a real keyboard. And the whole typing without looking thing too.

Isn't that one of the complaints people have with the droid? The keyboard? I've seen it in reviews. I think John from Droid Dog mentioned the small keyboard being an issue, plus the keys are flat, and don't offer much feedback. Talking to my cousin who bought one, doesn't like the keyboard. He always uses the onscreen, because the onscreen is actually a larger keyboard, due to the huge d-pad on the slide out. If he had it to do over, he would get the Eris. Also, in the "Droid Does" commercials, the onscreen keyboard was used more often than the slide out keyboard.

Also, there was no ad campaign for the Eris. Verizon did some generic advertising on their ads, but didn't mention what the phone could do. Marketing rules everything.
