Re: Custom ROM Service

Since most rom components and tools for making roms that are available have been provided for free, and most everything is someone else's work. I don't beleive anyone should charge a fee for making ROMS....It is your time, but the software authors that provided the tools for building roms had no intentions of making them so someone could charge for their work. This has been greatly debated over the last couple month', and generally not accepted. All they have to do is read my tutorials and/or post a question.

Re: Custom ROM Service
I have to agree. Which is why the standard ROMs and kitchen I contribute to have been, and always will be free, as well the many tutorials and tools.
That being said, custom ROMs generally cater to a wide range of people and a wide range of features. There are options such as SDAutorun that works to help customize these ROMs to your own tastes that are very good. Kitchens are also the most amazing tool allowing nearly anything to be possible, and free. The idea I have is for a more basic user that has no interest in kitchens but likes a one of a kind ROM that fits their specific needs. Like I said, it's just an idea, if no one wants it, it won't happen. If people do then they do. I've had a few requests where people have offered, which is why I put this forward. Re: Custom ROM Service
You know what may be good? A new thread in the off topic section that ask's the users of this board. Usually the chefs chime in harshly. Think of some good options, and ask that question again with a poll. In the off topic section so everyone get's to it, it's a fluke I read your first post being in the diamond section.
But let's ask the users with a poll that same question. Good poll answers, a simple yes or no won't suffice.... It should be interesting to see how it turns out... edit: this sorta stuff has killed the vogue upgrade forum already... |

Re: Custom ROM Service
Coming from the common guy who has no idea how to cook a rom this sounds like a good idea . But I see how some people who develope could become upset seeing others prophet off of free material. Anyway sounds like something that would intrest me considering that "like previously metioned" i have no idea how to cook a rom.

Re: Custom ROM Service
The ol' catch 22....
Users that want it, can't cook yet. Users that oppose it, provide the tools to cook with...usually for free... I vote for the I'll cook you a custom rom, just no artzy stuff. |

Re: Custom ROM Service
This site is about PPC custom ROMs and provides for FREE all the information. The ROMs by and large, are free. The kitchens are free. If you want to donate, a lot of the chefs have that. The kitchen has that. This site has that. I have donated to a lot here, but it was my own free will and my way of saying thanks. Why pay to have someone cook up a ROM when the kitchen makes it so easy?

Re: Custom ROM Service
And the basis of a supply and demand market.
I vote that ROMs should be, and are free, but if you want the artsy stuff, you pay for it, and if you really like certain programs, you donate to those authors so they continue to make them. |

How many have chimed in against e-bay_dude selling ppcgeeks stuff. This is about the same to me... edit: all the tools are free, most of the programs are ripped from a rom. Roms that the provider has paid a licensing fee to say GoogleMaps to provide that software in their say, Sprint Rom. No, GoogleMaps isn't free... |
