The card is used for media, programs, etc. Its your primary storage medium for the phone.

And remember you dont HAVE a card slot at all now. So those 3 cards are going away. You cant swap a movie card for your music card if you want to use the phone to watch that. You cant pull the card out and drop it in a SD reader in your computer for a quick program update, or to quickly drop a new song onto it. I have a 6GB card which is left in 99% of the time. I also have a 2GB for playing with android, and a 512 to backup the important stuff from the 6GB card.
Then I suggest you either bite the bullet with the Diamond or get the Pro and use your cards. There is no one phone that has everything we would each individually like, so we ALL have to compromise in some form or fashion.

Since the Pro lacks the 4gb, the only non-removable location to install user applications is in the ROM. Hence it makes sense to enlarge the ROM on the pro.

When it comes to "aggregate" storage space, the Diamond's is locked to that 4GB. It has 256MB for ROM plus 4GB of internal storage, so you could say the Diamond has 4.256 GB of space for use, but files in storage will reduce the actual amount of space to install applications. Meanwhile, the Touch Pro has 512 ROM plus whatever size memory card you choose to use. In summation, the Touch Pro is more expandable as it has more ROM and support for memory cards that have more memory capacity, which means more programs can be installed at once, making the Touch Pro important only to people who really use their PPC's A LOT. Since I do, I will likely get a Pro, unless more information becomes available on the WM7 front, soon. Too bad that extra memory on the sd card can't be used for purposes of more RAM ... lol maybe they should make that happen for WM7, like ReadyBoost/ReadyDrive for Vista ...

So? What about upgrades? Are you aware that the Apache (6700) was released with WM 5 but is now (unofficially, of course) running 6.1?

Why do you say that? It's entirely possible that HTC learned from the Mogul, and are rolling out a device that has enough memory to run the next version of WM. I could easily see them doing that for the more business-oriented Pro than the more consumer-oriented Diamond.

You're really stretching here! I think most Pro users would have the extra $10 to $20 to buy a card!

they got a card slot and more rom strictly because they didnt get the 4gb internal storage.

WM7 is a major update, you won get that for free. the touch Pro will be released with WM6.1 as WM7 is going to be Q1 2009 according to everything i have read.

they wont design a device around the fact that users pirate mobile operating systems, that's just ludicrous yes the 6700 has wm 6.1 UNOFFICIAL this means in a sense its a ill gotten copy, there fore was not payed for or endorsed by HTC

HTC pays Microsoft for the WM operating systems they use on there devices. unless you pay HTC for a major update they are not going to fork it for free im guessing.

Sorry to change the subject, but, how do you "play with android" without installing a different ROM? Is there another thread for this? =D>

Google knows everything all you need to do is ask http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index...e=RaphaelLinux

Just read down a little and see that it's really easy to brick your diamond if you don't know what you're doing and it doesn't boot on sprint diamonds yet and they're not sure why.
