Re: Diamond Reviews
My thoughts exactly! As much as I would love to go to the pro, I cannot imagine going back to another large device. Small is where it is at, unless the extra space is for more screen real estate.

Re: Diamond Reviews
I have the mogul now and I've never really considered the depth that "bulky," so no skin off my back. The thing that I'll be happy about is the decreased height and width. That'll be a significant difference maker for me.

Re: Diamond Reviews
I am a Sprint employee and I was able to mess around with the Diamond for about 2 hours and it is a really cool device. The screen is very clear and the Touch Flo is very easy to use, but after I was able to get used to the UI, I realized something. I realized that I was really bored with it after I got to know it. Even with all the cool features, there is one thing that I look for in a device and that is outer aesthetics. When I saw the Diamond back on the GSM version, I was really excited to get it because that is SO original and there is no other phone that has a Diamond design like that.
With all the new devices coming out and all these "easy to use" UI's, I feel that each phone is not as unique as I would like. There is the TOUCH HD that is coming out, but it will probably have the same clunky Windows Mobile 6.1 and I am not excited about that at all. We could get a new ROM for the device, but that is just setting me up to want to change it again. We can change just about anything with the software and that just makes me want to change it again. There is only one thing we can't change on a phone and that is an original design. Why not a strobing white light around the entire device? I am rambling, but is my thoughts on the Diamond. Thanks. |

Re: Diamond Reviews
Ok, I have used this Diamond a day.
The screen is unbelievable. My other phone, the touch, was one with a bad screen, and I really didn't know how much better this would be, it blew me away. The wifi is quick, and gets very quick connections. The radio gets just as good reception as my vogue did with the update. I have had no problem so far with reception. The Bluetooth is very weak. If my headset, Motorola S9, isn't within 6 to 8 inches it will be choppy and sometimes won't even play. The accelerometer is amazing, it is responsive and the game teeter makes very good use of this. In order to get music to show album art I had to use a tag editor and jump through like five hoops, still some albums show and some don't. On some albums, some songs show and some don't. I had the Internal Storage problem and found a fix which I posted in that thread, but I am just waiting until that stupid thing happens again. As soon as I got it I hard reset thanks to a post from someone who said it made the GPS responsive, I forget who posted. I guess he was right, because I get locks within 5 seconds inside with Igo8. I also had the internet problem, so I went to start, settings, update profile, and somehow it worked. Thanks to Malatesta for that info. This phone is unbelievably responsive, it has yet to get sluggish, and with as many as 7 apps open I have yet to get above 50% memory usage. I really like that part, as I like to run a few apps at a time. I had a few texts, 2 phone calls, used wifi for about an hour, stereo bluetooth for about 30 minutes, and a few other things, and my battery was low at 1pm, starting at about 7AM playing music. I am going to need another battery no question. TouchFlo 3D is really something to behold in person on this screen. The only problem is when I am using it I just end up in regular windows mobile after a while. It actually hides it a little better than I expected though. I think MP3 Trimmer is busted. While it seems to work, when I set it to a ringtone it starts about 5 seconds before I chose, so I end up with some chorus and some verse. Its weird and people stare at me. haha... Youtube app is pretty sweet, I think they did a great job with this. Also I can confirm Flashlite 3.1 working for me on the Opera that comes standard. The zoom feature on this is also unbelievable. In the internet, to zoom, you just move your finger around the circle that is above the enter button. Clockwise to zoom in, counterclockwise to zoom out. This is one of the coolest features I didn't know about that I have found. The camera is actually a little better than I expected. I have taken a few pics, but not kept any or I would post some. I think there is actually a thread about this somewhere. While I would like for the camera to have a flash, I can live without. The charger it comes with plugs into the wall and you have to use the USB cable to get to the phone from there. It cuts down clutter, but it is just a little short. It also comes with its own screen protector, which I couldn't find because I never open the cd it comes with, haha... All in all, to be honest, I love the phone. I want a fix for the bluetooth. I want a fix for the internal storage. I will have to find a battery from somewhere, I heard from another thread, that boxwave has some, but they are a little over $30. I would really like it if the Album art was a little easier to incorporate into touchflo, I wish Mp3 Trimmer worked as planned, and I wish the camera had a flash. I knew about the flash going in, so I can't gripe. It is leaps and bounds better than my old vogue, and I really can't believe how much better the screen actually is.

Diamond exceeds my expectation
I am sure Instinct failed miserably to meet all ad/hype.
what about diamond? I've been using Diamond and here is my thoughts: Overall, Diamond meet and exceed my expectation, which can be low due to Instinct disappointment. Here is the list of key features with most importance listed first: 1) Phone: it works as a phone with all phone features. No complain 2) Signal: it is not better or worse than my samsung A920. sometime it is better, other time it is worse. No complain here 3) Battery: it drains fast due to all features. but it will improves after burn-in period. I don't have specific number but I have no complain. 4) Internet: this is the most important (beside basic phone) feature and HTC hit home run with its Opera browser. I tried a few full-blown sites and it worked great. YouTube is a plus and makes internet more user-friendly. 5) Tethering: it works! it works without installing any driver on PC. The speed I got from 600mbps to 1400mbps, depend on location/signal. 6) Mail: wow, what can I say? I like to check mail more often now since it is easy and convenient, any where and anytime (with signal of course). Overall, mail work great. 7) GPS: no comment since I did not use it yet. still waiting for ROM 2. 8 ) Media: Music and Photo works fine but not great and need improvement. hopefully ROM 2 will improve these areas. 9 ) Performance: Like any PC from Dell or HP, out of the box it is lagging with all sprint floating wares. However, with a few registry tweaks, some cleanup/removal, it works OK now. Moreover, once Juicy ROM is finalized, I am sure it will make Diamond a much better phone. can't wait for ROM 2. Like Dell/HP PC, formating and install clean OS is the best way to boost performance. 10) Customization: this is where Window Mobile excels. I can add/remove many available applications, edit registry, or flash new customized ROM. all of these tweak your Diamond specifically to your personal tastes. 11) Camera: though without flash, it is much better than my samsung A920. No complain here. the pic quality meet mys expectation of a smalll phone. 12) Form Factor: wow, it is small. it is smaller than my Samsung 920. Comparing to iphone or the new HTC Touch HD, it is much smaller. though with less usable screen size, it is very portable and fit into your pocket/purse nicely. plus, smaller screen size help battery last longer. though the red back is less desirable, front is stylish. 13) Buttons: Home, phone, back buttons work great and very usable. Initially I though the touch wheel is very litte of use and takes too much real estate. Why did HTC include this big wheel? why not like iphone or HTC Touch HD? However, after installing tweak, I can use touch wheel to navigate many things, not just web zoom, such as calendar, History, contacts, File/Internet Explorer. BIG PLUS: I can browse the web and zoom in/out with one hand and one finger. iphone needs two hands and two fingers for zooming. Overall, touch wheel is unique and has its advantages. What do you think of your Diamond? Last edited by foxnews; 09-20-2008 at 02:50 PM. |

Not a believer yet
I just received my Diamond Thursday. My first impression is not great. After having the Vogue for the past 6 months I don't really see a huge difference. Immediately out of the box the phone would not connect to the internet. After spending an endless evening with the so called Sprint Techs, they finally had me do a master reboot that corrected the problem. The tech stated that I was the 5th caller today with the same problem. Now that I can go on the internet, I have discovered the battery gets very hot and runs down in about 30 minutes with heavy use. Although the screen is nice and the apps look impressive, I am not sold on this phone yet. With Outlook you are able to sync all your contacts and numbers, but when you add a picture to the contact you get an error message on the PC every time you sync the phone. Maybe after a little tweaking I will come around and enjoy my Diamond as much as the Vogue. I do have to admit the Vogue was not great until I added a few programs I discovered on this site. Hope this review does not hinder your decision in purchasing the phone because like with all new phones they will get the bugs out soon.

Re: Diamond Reviews
Updating profile will allow for data to connect... happened to roommate's phone. Took me forever to figure that out... and I think someone else posted this on the forum as well. Love the phone already though... can't wait to get mine later this week.
