Re: Diamond Reviews

I am using the unlocked GSM Diamond atm, and absolutely love it. Screen in great, I use the touchflo interface is awesome and very intuitive, I just wish it was a little more efficient with the RAM use. If I could customize it to remove the music tab I think it would be much less resourceful.

When it comes to checking emails/sms, etc, I actually prefer the regular WM programs and skip over the manila interface as soon as I can.

I was also pleasantly surprised to see that the keyboard, and Opera 9, work MUCH faster and smoother when preinstalled in ROM

Re: Diamond Reviews

I'm about 12 hours into the fray with this phone. I don't know why so many people we're having problems with their internet, and batter drainage. I used the phone quite a bit before I charged it and had no issues with the battery life. I have a mogul, and this is definitely a welcomed upgrade. I haven't taken any pictures but I was looking at things with the camera, and the clarity is something you'd have to see to believe. I am still keeping my judgment about this phone reserved till I fully put it through it paces. I tried to install TCMP R. 71, and no good. The tabs and colors are very nice, and the weather is definitely cool. The music store and audio manager found the album art for a lot of my music. I just wish my picturemail worked properly then I'd be a happy camper, but everything else works how its supposed to and its zippy

Re: Diamond Reviews

This phone is so awesome, although it shouldn't be called the diamond because it is missing the back that the GSM region was so lucky to get, but who knows there might be some future releases to replace the maroon backing, on the design of the phone it is truly an amazing phone it feels good in the hand and has an amazing VGA screen the colors and the brightness on it is so vivid, there are a couple of tweaks that need to be made to make this phone over the top for instance when you make a phone call the speaker volume whilst in call is low, you can't go into landscape keyboard mode while texting, and the touch screen pressure needs to be more sensitive and the neon theme i don't like that much but this was all fixed with a couple of registry edits and a brand new rom this phone is such a leap for HTC another great thing about this phone HTC acutally built a youtube application into the phone the display of this is so amazing! its a bit choppy when your not in evdo areas but other than that it's a great application there is a wifi function included but i never had to use it the phone gets amazing speed without having to connect to wifi, google maps on the diamond is amazing also! sometimes i can get up to 11 GPS signals, i personally use tomtom on the diamond, there are other great applications out there there is just so much innovation to come to this phone and future htc products i think htc hit the nail with this phone and hopefully it will just keep getting better, also this is my first PPC phone my previous phone was a instinct, and that phone was a piece it was so hard to text on this phone has a great T9 phone keypad its great and really responsive screen the speed of the phone can be tweeked to be a little faster and a little more responsive, all in all this phone is great there are a couple of issues with the phone i don't like mainly appearence, and the fact you have to use an adapter to use 3.5mm headphones(thats what they make mp3 players for) but i'll get over that i'll probably just end up getting the phone painted black

Re: Diamond Reviews

Quicky Review:

Background:

I had 6600,6700,6800,6900 (10 months on 6900).

6900 had stock 6.1 mobile Sprint ROM. GPS worked 90% of the time. Voice Command had issues.

So far I'm borderline impressed with the 6950.

Pros:

Self Activation worked great.
Screen is great (for most things see below).
Speaker is good (Speakerphone and Earpiece).
VOICE COMMAND CONFIRMATION WORKS on BT Headset (loud and clear).
Wifi worked fine.
USB HDD Drive mode worked nicely (copied iGuidance maps in like under 10 minutes).
Syncing with Vista went smooth and fast <Subsequent Syncs to Dual PC's Failed, See my Post on switch to Exhancge>.
First GPS Lock in like 5 seconds.
* Pulling stylus out turns on device is nice.

Cons:

Scrolling is still sloppy, nothing even close to an iPhone.
The screen is stiff in some areas (mainly upper right OK, and Right side scroll requires more pressure than the rest of the screen.
Opera Mini very hard to use because of the itty bitty font, it's unware of VGA screen. (web pages are fine and you can adjust font).
I did not use the Cube on 6900, but did run HTC Today Plugin which had the 4 tabs. Once Click to get to everything I need quickly. I liked the integrated Windows Mobile Today and HTC Plugin. It's now completely burried and I can't run standard Today Plugins (i.e. no weather panel). It's either TouchFlow 3D or Weather panel, but not both.
Buttons at bottom very sloppy. You never know when they might click.
Rotation to Landscape is a crap shoot and slow when it does work.
My friend could slide his finger along the HTC Tab and smoothly flow through the choices. For some reason I can't do it.
Miss the Stylus Reset hole for quick reset.
Gets hot with even modest use.
Internet seems very slow.
Opera Mobile is a Joke and Keeps failing on pages intermittently.

Update: I'm starting to love it.

Finally switched to Exhange (Push Email).
Finally shutdown TF3D (It's Great if you don't care about running many WM Apps). I think Battery has improved since I shut it off.
Figured out a few quirks.
The more I use the screen I realize how good it is. The constrast and viewing angles are incredible not to mention the resolution.
I wish I could run the old 4 Button Tab HTC plug in from Touch 6.1 but I seen folks with issues trying to get it on newer phones. I really like getting all the screen realestate back for truely useful data (weather, calander, message status, etc).

Re: Diamond Reviews

i ordered the diamond thinking i was going hate not having a keyboard (i was a big mogul fan). Let me tell u the touch key board is awsome =D> im not as fast with it yet but in a couple weeks i will be. T he tf3d sweet!!! plus the opera is faster than the one on my mogul. IT DOES NOT HAVE TWO CAMERAS. i thought it would. the cam is very sharp but it would be better with a flash. The battery life is not very long (shorter than my mogul) but outside of that i love my new phone and have no buyer remo.

Yes, it works exactly like it did on Mogul and Vogue. However even with fonts set Extra Large they are still pretty small. Web pages are not too bad font wise. But the application itself (i.e. Bookmarks) are extremely small.

P.S. I finally shutoff TF3D. I have to have my Weather Panel.

Re: Diamond Reviews

Got mine a few hours ago. Been playing with it. Got some likes, got some dislikes. NOTE: This review is based on the sprint stock rom.

The size of this phone is so small... I'm almost shocked. It's hard to gauge something online. At least for me, in terms of size. But it's not much bigger than a blackberry pearl, aside from being a little thicker.

It feels great in your hand or when making a call up to your ear. I have large hands, and find it still feels comfortable to use.

The screen on this phone is utterly amazing. Being such a high resolution, crammed into a tiny 2.8 space makes some youtube videos look almost HD. Not saying the extra real estate wouldn't be nice, but for what the screen offers it's great.

The new interface is nice. In fact, it makes me forget sometimes I'm using a windows mobile device (a good thing).

Touch screen is a lot better than I expected. Although not much experiance text messaging on it, it feels fairly responsive for a pressure based screen.

Reception indoor has been very good to me. Streaming youtube, or sprint TV seems to work much better than it did on my Samsung Instinct.

D pad controls are a little stuff on mine. But it might get better with more use.

Battery gets hot as hell sometimes with minimal use. Could be an issue down the road.

So far I love it.

Re: Diamond Reviews

Been using the device for a little less than a week and have to say I am pleasantly surprised. I have had no freezing issues as of yet which constantly plagued me when I used the Apache and Titan. I am sure this can be attributed to the extra memory. The screen is VERY nice compared to anything I've ever used, especially for a phone. The back cover isn't as bad as I thought it would look, and is actually growing on me. Buttons are sometimes hard to use because they don't always respond. I am gradually getting used to an onscreen keyboard but will still be switching to the Pro when it is released (my wife, who hates electronics, now wants this one when I get the Pro). Overall, I'd have to say that I am thoroughly impressed with how responsive and intuitive this device is. Definitely A+ for HTC.

Note: I am using the Sprint stock ROM.

Re: Diamond Reviews

Ok, I simply have two easy yet big questions for you [former] vogue and titan users out there.

for vogue users:
1. how is speed? I have a vogue and have NEVER been impressed with speed whatsoever. running the best cleanest rom with all the reg tweaks and no apps open...its just slow. how does the diamond compare?

for vogue (and titan) users:
2. how responsive is the screen? this is HUGE to me. i know that the screen of the vogue is certainly not what you would call responsive despite doing the two screen sensitivity hacks. the vogue, i say, has a "push screen", not a touch screen. is it responsive to touch? heck no. but push/pressure, yes (and ya i know, its a "pressure sensitive screen" but still come on...first iphone came out AGES ago (sorry to compare to iphone) and yet nobody can do something as simple as make the screen sensitive?)

thanks!

1. It is incredibly faster than my vogue and I am on sprint stock rom with customizations.

2. The screen is still resistive, the iphone does not use resistive screen technology and therefore cannot be compared. The button at the bottom is more like the iphone, there is a word for it, but I am drawing a blank. The screen is more responsive than the Vogue, but like I said it is still resistive. The screen is also not squishy like my Vogues was.

Addition. You will love the screen. The Vogue is not even fair to compare to, its not even close.
