i looked through the contract i signed and it doesn't say anything about not allowing different ROMs. i also looked through HTC's EULA and it does not say anything about not being allowed to flash a new ROM, except that it is not liable for any damages caused by third party software.

so if i bricked my phone by botching a ROM install i couldn't send it back for a warranty replacement. this is not the case however. the phone just stopped working. that's like saying you void the warranty on your new iMac by installing windows.

HTC probably has "third party software" defined as being anything that does not come from an official HTC update.

i think HTC probably has "third party software" defined as "software originating from a third party". by "third party" they mean "someone who is not HTC" and "software" is hopefully self explanatory.

So I guess that's why they didn't replace your phone. QED.

so you think that the reason my phone broke was because i had a different version of winmo installed than what came with the phone?? OK

talks with Bell today didn't help much, I'm going to get in touch with the HTC repair center as soon as possible.

It's a possibility. Software can cause hardware problems.

You also voided your warranty by unlocking your phone.

The thing is...it doesn't matter if flashing 6.5 on it did anything or not.
I doubt it did, but if they choose to void your warranty because they think it did then that is their call.
This is the risk you take when you flash.

Re: "your warranty is voided because of illegal software"

maybe it's me, but the op sounds upsets because they asked a question and didn't get the answer that they wanted to hear. maybe it's just me. bottom line is you took a phone in with software on it that they don't use.

i understand that flashing a new rom is a no-no. this falls under the "unauthorized modification" clause in the HTC warranty. what irritates me is that this is an incredibly vague statement because in terms of software or unlocking it says nothing at all. there is nothing that warns you whatsoever that you might be voiding your warranty. the only damage to the hardware that is possible by unlocking the phone i think would be bumping up the Tx power (if that is even possible), or maybe loading some broken firmware or bios update or what have you.

also, not sure if you're aware, but there are laws in place to make sure that companies honor the warranties they offer. it is not just "their call" to refuse a warranty request. a warranty is a legally binding contract. if someone thinks they have a fair right to their warranty then they should try to prove their point.

What !?! You are telling me that a build of Windows 6.5 is on my phone? How did you come to that conclusion? Is it possible that you were confused by the theme I was running, or the startup splash or animation? At any rate, if you got the phone to boot and it is working, may I have my property back please? That, or you could replace it with a new one under warranty.

Just a thought on how you might direct the conversation to, at the very least, gain a little more insight into what is really going on.

Best regards,
