USB Problem PLEASE HELP!!!!

Hello,
I have successfully updated my phone(xv6700)to MOB 6.0/6.1 several times in the past and I have a problem that I can't figure out and need help. I can't seem to communicate from the phone to the computer. I have tried several computers and resetting and hard booting same result.

When I setup and install Active Sync and plug the xv6700 into the computer it gets Device not recognized. After soft resets and hard resets same result. When in Bootloader mode the same result device not recognized (Flashing from an older 6.0 ROM I have saved)

The device will recognize the USB because one I can charge and two in Bootloader mode it recognizes Serial\USB. The USB port is in good condition it must be a software issue but I'm not into software on that level.

I have an older ROM saved and in Bootloader mode it's give the same message when trying to flash it.

I can boot my phone normally and works fine. I've read about Flashing from the SD card but not sure how to intialize the SD card on power up to flash from it, and what files would be need to do this.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers, Harvey

What do you have "Advanced Network Functionality" in Start>Connections>USB to PC checked or unchecked (on the device)? On the PC Activesync, did you reenable "Allow USB connections"? You had to disable when you flashed.

Re: USB Problem PLEASE HELP!!!!

Yes to your question. I tried it both ways enable\disabling in advanced configuration and enabling actvie sync through the USB port. Resetting etc...

The thing I'm confused with is that I have an older ROM and I go into Bootloader mode and plug in the USB cable it identifies the USB cable (Serial\USB) but it will not except the ROM and gives and error message. It's a timeout error.

So I'm not sure if it's related to MOB 6.1 and the USB configuration through Active Sync or it's internally related that there could be a problem.

With that being said why would be when Win Mob boots it's says device not recognized on the computer and in Bootloader mode and it recognizes usb? So it should except the ROM right if win Mob is corrupted ... Saying the USB port is ok?

I also tried several ver of Active Sync and WMD on Vista the same result.

It's like the xv6700 lost it's USB driver info.

I heard it's possible to boot from the SD card? and reload the drivers there?

Re: USB Problem PLEASE HELP!!!!

So you are sure everything is kosher on the PC side. When you connect the 6700 you get the "ding" and when you look in device manager you see "mobile remote adapter" or something like that under network adapters? And "HTC USB sync" under mobile devices? Have you changed the 6700 device name and not deleted/recreated the partnership? Don't use a USB hub. Still could be a bad cable, I guess. That's about all you can do. I don't think you can boot from the SD card as it would need the ROM; I've heard of flashing from the SD card. I don't know if the USB drivers are around in .CAB format.

Re: USB Problem PLEASE HELP!!!!

Flashing from the SD Card is device dependent. For example, the bootloader on an Apache is designed to access a serial (USB) connection. A Dell axim bootloader looks for ROMs on the SD slot. So I do not believe you can flash your ROM from the SD Card.

And before some n00b says, "You can do Android from the SD!", you can RUN it from the card but it isn't flashing your ROM. So don't even go there.

Re: USB Problem PLEASE HELP!!!!

Using XP and as well as Vista even though they use Active Sync and WDM they both give the same message.

"USB Device Not Recognized"
One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it.

When I look at USB connected it shows up as "Unknown Device" .

What it reminds me of is a jump drive that is corrupted or does'nt have a driver for it.

I use the Active Sync from ver 4. to 4.5 and the same message.

Under the AC connection test it looks for the device but won't connect. I tried different cables etc... and computer's

On my xv6700 under Active Sync USB when connected to cradle (checked)

Under USB to PC there is AC to WMDC checked and enable advance networking unchecked.

I tried it both ways enable disabling and rebooting reattempting etc...

Read earlier post;s for more info

Thanks guys so far I'm at a lose but I don't feel it;s broke just corrupted

Re: USB Problem PLEASE HELP!!!!

When checked should that work (Mass Storage Device) or the options associated directly to the PC

Re: USB Problem PLEASE HELP!!!!

Also just thought of something it's showing up as a USB port and possibly not going through Active Sync.....

Maybe the configuration is set wrong

The device boot's normally. Could someone view active sync on there phone or there configuration to see if there's some mismatch with the settings of the usb and relationship with the way it communicates with AC. Seems it just connects as USB and doesn't go to AC
