This might help, but may not be quite what you are looking for. In fact it's a total annoyance to me.
If you start up WMP and close it out, without killing the process, so that WMP is still technically running. Press the power button to turn off the phones screen. Insert your memory card if you haven't already.... Now power the phone on. What this does: When the phone is powered on and the memory card is in, and WMP is running, WMP will present you with a prompt. "A storage card was inserted. Do you want to search it for audio and video files?" Hope this helps. I hate it, but maybe it's exactly what you are looking for. |

Well thanks for the effort, but it does not seem to prompt me with any sort of notification or the "A storage card was inserted. Do you want to search it for audio and video files?" even upon soft reset without the card installed.
This is for a xv6700 running the stock aku (would love to put one of the cooked roms on but cant afford the risk if it goes down for any substantial amount of time) Hypothetically would there be a registry entry that would query the card as a default first and then the onboard memory? I would move to a different player but I am very happy with the alternate skin (named “voice command†on my phone) that wmp provides and it works wonderfully in every respect except this small somewhat annoying point! I have tried a few but none compare to wmp with the alt. skin for my taste. I liked the ppod app, but it does not navigate as easily or have a minimize button readily accessible. |

You did start WMP and then power the screen off, correct?
Soft-reset will not work in this situation because it clears programs that are running in memory. Simple, insert your memory card. 1. Start WMP. 2. With WMP on screen press the power button on top of your phone. 3. now, press it again to power the phone on. 4. WMP should be up. 5. WMP should prompt you with the "A storage card was inserted. Do you want to search it for audio and video files?" prompt. |

Wow, thanks! Mine didn't say that a card was inserted, but when I went into My Music>All Music it was all there.
It didn't say anything think like: Scanning... or anything like that, so make sure the music isn't there, mine magically appeared. Thanks again! |

that's weird, I'm fixing to try it myself on the 6700. I'm a noob to adding music to it.
