A few comments / questions.

1. It appears I needed to run the minimum provider customization in order for EVDO to work
2. I couldn't get it to sync via active sync until I hard reset it a second time. The first time it would error out with Active Sync Support Code 8007000e

The EV and signal icons are behaving differently than I expect comming from the OEM 2.X. Before the EV icon would change into an EV icon with arrows when the data connection was active. Now I have a large EV icon all the time and the signal strength icon has data arrows, is this normal? It doesn't give much indication of signal strength with the arrows in the way.
Not sure about your activesync error (try googling it to see if there are any known causes), but the arrow behavior is expected and normal in AKU3.x versions of WM5. A lot of us would like to have the old arrows back, but at this point in time it appears not to be possible (I have tried a few things, none of which have worked).

Hopefully you will find (as I have) that AKU3 is so much better in terms of speed and responsiveness that it's worth keeping despite the few downsides.

I guess the arrows arn't too bad, they just seem less intuitive.

The phone does seem more responsive however I locked it up solid twice within the first hour of updating it, I am going to have to run it for a while to see if it is an improvement or not.

One big thing so far is that the speed at which it responds to new calls seems better, but again I will have to get all my 3rd party software back on it before I can tell if it is the ROM or the hard reset that makes it seem faster.

The onscreen keyboard glitch is anoying.

Are there more details about this somewhere else? If not, please be very specific as to what you're talking about.

I ran Opera from the memory card, put it in sleep mode for 60 seconds, and turned it back on and the Opera program closed itself down. I pretty much expect this to happen all the time with any memory card resident program, but I thought I'd post about it, since you guys are asking specifically for SD card mounting issues. I haven't used a BT stereo headset, but so far I have no problems using just a standard headset. It works exactly as expected.

Well about two posts up, but I will give more details.

My device falls under an exchange password lock pollicy that requires more than 4 digits in a pin.

This causes the standard alfa numeric lock screen to come up which is just a text field, requiring the keyboard or onscreen keyboard to be used.

The system always defaults to the standard keyboard after a soft reset, and sometimes I leave it on that keyboad after using it.

However since I must unlock my device often I prefer to enable the T9/Phone on screen keyboard in numeric mode because I can use my thumb to unlock my device with it.

I have found that in this rom I am unable to switch on screen keyboards while the lock screen is activated, where this was possible on the standard OEM 2.X ROM.

I have also noticed a larger than usual number (3 times in the last 12 hrs) of "Error Code : 37 Miscellaneous Erroneously Mobile IP Set Up Occurred" errors. Which now display as notifications instead of popups which is nice. These errors often seem to happen when switching from USB ActiveSync back to EVDO. It is mostly a useless error since EVDO seems to function regardless.

Edit:

Hmm after switching to other on screen input modes it seems to work now.. Maybe it is only an issue right after a soft reset...

After a couple of weeks of watching this forum, I couldn't resist any longer and flashed a new ROM on my Telus 6700. I did follow the wiki and "cut my teeth" using Wideawake's 2.2 upgrade. So now, I know what I am in for...

Now that Lazybones, whose given me helpful advice with my 6700 over the past year, has done it, I am not sure I'll be able to resist much longer!

Curious on what you chose as "minimum" -- did you run all of these:
Default_Setting.sa.CAB
telus_setting.sa.CAB
DPST.sa.CAB
Link.sa.CAB
Dpstdll.sa.CAB
AmdCmdInt.sa.CAB

I had another Telus user tell me he didn't run any of the customizations, and he just had to set up his data connection manually. (Not that I remember how to do that.)

Curious on what you did and did not let run.

Default_Setting.sa.CAB
telus_setting.sa.CAB
DPST.sa.CAB
Link.sa.CAB
Dpstdll.sa.CAB
AmdCmdInt.sa.CAB

As suggested in
http://www.ppcgeeks.com/official-lis...ier-t4189.html

If another telus user has a full list of manual steps I can go through it again, maybe it is just a simple case of recreating the #777 connection number?
I realize that the provider customizations could be the source of the problem.

I personally would suggest offering any ExtROM separate from the release set. The reason that I say that is, I have to handle the 1,000 idiots that haven't flashed before, and if it's too complicated, I'm just going to throw my hands in the air and send them all your way And trust me, you're not going to want to hold each and every one of their hands on shuffling around ExtROMs.

It would be much better if any ExtROMs were made separate, so that savvy users (hackers) can juggle them all day if they want, but make the general release easy enough for the typical PPC-6700 owner to install.
If it matters, I uploaded the Alltel Extended ROM from AKU2.2 to the Carrier ROMS directory yesterday.

For what it's worth, the only two that I install are DisableDataCode and DefaultSettings (I believe that they set up the EvDO connection and the ## codes respectively). Didn't install any of the other cabs and everything seems to work fine. Contrary to what Christopher posted, I did in fact have problems when allowing the full Alltel Extended ROM to install... can't remember exactly what the problems were since that was about 5 AKUs ago....

That was pretty much what I was told...He had to set up the #777 connection again.
