Re: Which Wi-Fi Card In the 6700?
Ok check it out. I reverted the boot loader to v2.02 and in the process downgraded the rom to stock WM5, then upgraded the radio from 1.10 to 1.41. Still nada. I'm going to reflash to WM6.1 and if there's no progress like I suspect I'll be in the market for a minisd wifi card. Cheers everyone.
Hold that thought - since I'm out of the warranty and SOL on a replacement, I'm gonna unscrew it and check the physical wifi connection first. Thanks to all for the big help. Last edited by thebigdombrowski; 08-20-2008 at 07:45 PM. |

Just click the x-out icon and activate and it goes and searches available networks. I'm wondering with all the radio failures ater flashing if it is coincidence or just that these refurb devices are getting 3-4 years old and that's the lifespan of the radio??? Re: Which Wi-Fi Card In the 6700?
My xv6700 was new from Verizon a year ago, seems premature for the wifi to crap out so soon. Oh well. I took it apart and everything seemed in order. In case anyone wants to know how:

Re: Which Wi-Fi Card In the 6700?
Mine's coming up on a year in November. Keeping my fingers crossed. I didn't opt for the insurance either so I would be up the creek as well. I can't live w/o WIFI either...No data plan.

Re: Which Wi-Fi Card In the 6700?
Dejavu. So I did exactly what I said I would do: paved over the tiacxwln.dll to no avail. Giving up on onbaord wifi, I bought a spectec mini sd wifi card. Install was fine, I now have a wifi icon on my connection settings menu BUT it won't connect or even detect any networks. I'm sitting right next to an open wifi network. To make sure it wasn't my router, I tried it at work and around public locations with open networks. No deal. There must be some conflict that is preventing both the onboard and 3rd party wifi from working. But what?

Re: Which Wi-Fi Card In the 6700?
Hmmm. Thought that issue was solved. Had to reread everything u did previously. First, let's try to troubleshoot the card. I assume that u did a soft reset after the installation. Just wondering what ROM you settled with. 6.1? There are some interfering ingredients, e.g. dialers, the TouchFLO stuff, etc. U might want to load the stock Verizon WM5 again and reload the card. Also, I assume that u can read and write to a regular miniSD card. If u can't do that, the WIFI won't work either. Also, look at the WIFI config and make sure DHCP is enabled, e.g. u get the IP address automatically. I have to believe that the WIFI card is a separate system with separate drivers, etc. But it also needs a functioning miniSD card slot. Call up VZW and tell them the sad story, but leave out the 6.1 flashing bit. I don't think the WIFI radio should fail anytime close to a year. If you have been a good customer, I've heard that they might offer u a refurb even w/o insurance. Keep calling back and be nice 'cuz it depends on the rep.

Re: Which Wi-Fi Card In the 6700?
Thanks for the reply gambatte. I went ahead and reflashed to the OEM Verizon rom (AKU 2.07). My onboard wifi problem persists, as expected. I installed the WM5.0 driver for the spectect SDW-822 miniSD wifi card. It shows the adapter isntalled but I'm having the same problem with no networks appearing. DHCP is enabled. I've called Verizon a few times, maybe if I spin a yarn about their AKU3.3 update being a trigger they'll take some pity on me, though I doubt it. My contract expires in February, if I can last that long without wifi I may just jump carriers for a new handset.

Re: Which Wi-Fi Card In the 6700?
This is so weird and hate to give up. Saw some reviews not to use the CD but the website to download the driver:
http://www.spectec.com.tw/Download.htm#wlan Doesn't seem like a well maintained website so idk if it would be any use to ask them what is wrong. When you do a flash, and hard reset after, do you allow the carrier customizations to run? |

Re: Which Wi-Fi Card In the 6700?
Normally i don't allow the customizations, but this time I did. As an experiement just now I hard reset and prevented the customization cabs from installing, no go for both the onboard wifi and the spectec. Just to note, I did download the driver from the website and I tried several different ones before I found one that gave me a configuration dialog in the network cards screen. If it were a software issue, why would it persist after re-flashing?
