Re: Which Wi-Fi Card In the 6700?
Okay, more ideas...
Remove any Flash Cards, Disable all Today Plugins, Soft Reset and try again... (You might also want to disable all programs in the \Windows\Startup but be careful...) Also try (re)flashing to a new RADIO (I like 1.41) Try turning on Wi-Fi when plugged into a charger... |

Re: Which Wi-Fi Card In the 6700?
Hey,
To answer the original question, the built-in card is called TIACXWLN1 on my 6700... (Used IPCONFIG via dotFred Task Manager to get this info) |

Re: Which Wi-Fi Card In the 6700?
Ok, so I reflashed to WM6.1 using the kitchen (helmi_c) and it's still the same problem. WiFi simply won't turn on. Is there a secret squirrel (ie reg edit) way to get this puppy going? Am I missing a configuration setting? On second thought, my handset is boot loader 2.05, could this be the sticky point?

I would like to try that out, thanks for metioning it. Yes I know the newer Verizon ROM's startup screen has that. Yes it can be added but, it wants to use the cellular line and not WiFi. And you get an error even when the #777 line deleted saying it requires a connection. In WM6 you can do it over WiFi with no errors. And the little app to make the keyboard input stay after soft reset don't work with WM5. Basically it's a matter of preffrence

Re: Which Wi-Fi Card In the 6700?
The radio is 1.43 - I get 5 bars on the ceullular. I recently found a youtube video that shows the same prob.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7026278985579380095&ei=ATurSOyODoq 64gLrza22BA&q=apache+wifi&vt=lf&hl=en I realize he finally just swapped his phone with verizon, but i'm off contract, no insurance, and out of the warranty. Not to mention, I'm convinced it's a software issue. I downloaded a nifty app, vxutil, that shows all the network adadpters and such but I'm a total newb to network troubleshooting. Update: it's starting to look more and more like the wifi modem is simply not present. If I tap connections>add a new modem connection I should see the wifi in the select modem drop box - but I don't. vxutil shows no ip address for both tiacxwln1 or wwan1. Thoughts? Re: Which Wi-Fi Card In the 6700?
I think the WIFI is a radio like the BT and the phone. If it is a software problem, then your driver for the tiacxwln1 adapter may be bad. IDK if you can get that separate from the radio ROM. But since you have flashed so many radios and ROMs, it should have fixed itself by now. I think hardware. If you can spare the miniSD slot there is an adapter that fits:

Re: Which Wi-Fi Card In the 6700?
I keep forgetting that WM5 WiFi tools are slightly different from WM6. Unfortunately I haven't used WM5 in so bloody long that I can't remember the info steve is wanting....

Re: Which Wi-Fi Card In the 6700?
Thanks Gambatte, I can seperate the tiacxwln.dll driver from the rom and pave over it, same for the wwan.dll. Might as well give it a shot before buying the minisd wifi card you suggested (very cool btw). I might just try the drivers from WM5 even though flashing down did nothing.
PS, I contacted Ustarcom and got the standard in a box response (just click wifi and you should be good to go). They did suggest changing the network to 'My work" instead of My ISP and now I get an IP address error - but no wireless tab in the network cards screen. |
