Has anyone been sucessful with the MS BT Stack in XP SP2? I've tried just about everything and the PPC6700 never shows up as an available PAN device.

On Vista the MS stack works though... when I clicked "Join a Personal Area Network" initially the 6700 wasn't listed. Once I clicked Refresh though it showed up.

It just seems odd to me that this isn't meant to work with MS's own BT stack in XP. The MS Stack supports PAN in XP SP2 so it should work.

Anyway, nice job RoniXT. Hopefully we can nail down the XP SP2 issue.

I'm wondering about the entries in [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\BTPAN1\Parms\TcpIp]... can't find those published in MSDN anywhere and there's actually a private IP address listed (192.168.0.1). Wondering what happens if you're using that range on another network adapter?

Did you pair your connection yet?
Everything is so much smoother if you pair before trying to access the PAN service.

Are you able to create a PAN server with the XP desktop? I think once you've reached that point, you should be able to detect the PAN service coming from the 6700.

I think I remember that entry being there even before the fix.

It's my understanding (mainly from reading Menneisyys' writeup here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=282780) that AKU 3 PAN is server-only, which jibes with the registry settings in your cab file--where PAN is in NAP (network access point) mode.

Furthermore, from what I have read about the MS BT Stack in XP SP2, it is only capable of acting as a PAN client.

So it should work then, with the 6700 establishing a PAN NAP and the PC connecting to it as a client.

It's just that the PC never sees the 6700 as a PAN-device (and yes I had already established the connection under Internet Sharing... the 6700 will only advertise PAN with Internet Sharing enabled).

I'm convinced this is possible and that we're just missing something somewhere.

RoniXt,

Thanks so much for your work on this , it works great!!! No BT internet access was the biggest drawback on 3.x for me. I'm running Saridnours’ AKU 3.5+_pr4 /w Widcomm drivers on an HP tc4200 WinXP SP2.
