hotmail cab

I am not very fond of MSM so I don't miss it. But I have been using hotmail for about 8 years on the same account.

Is there any way to add/enable it to a ROM that has it removed?

(registry hack or cab file)

I have heard this is not possible. I have been running Kirvins "basic" 3.5 CE Rom with my own modified extended ROM. This includes all the MSN stuff and has been working very well. looks like you will need to reflash if you want Hotmail to work in messenger, or you will have to use the internet application. I tried this for a couple of days and found it to be to much of a pain in the backside and ended up re-flashing.

mostly those who remove the MSN as part of their rom buildes, remove the three MSN1,2,3 from the kitchen. Thats really all there is to removing it.

So.. if the person building you're rom is also releasing the kitchen they are building from, you could easily build it back in.

If not, and you're adventure some, you could use the older method of building roms. Take the rom from the builder of you're choice, extract it, grab the msn oem's, and put em back in. Be warned, though, this is a serious undertaking, not for the light of heart.

The "simpler" answer might well be to just load windows live. Windows Live includes direct access to you're windows email account, and is msfts planned replacement for msn anyway. Last I used it, i found some issues regarding it co-habitating with a outlook/exchange connection, but i never deg into the effort to determine the faults. My mileage is usually far different than other users...

I had the same issue a couple of weeks ago, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

Having the MSN app removed from the image I'm using forced me to look for an alternative means to getting my Hotmail (also a longtime user of that service for my personal mail).

What I found was the HTTPMail Provider on Handango. It's $10, but what it does is allow you to add your Hotmail account to the Messaging app like it was a POP/IMAP account. Unlike syncing mail via MSN, it's pretty fast and you can configure message size/attachment download like an Exchange/POP/IMAP account. It used to drive me crazy that the MSN client would take forever to download and then I'd have to do it a 2nd time to get the rest of longer messages.

* HTML formatting is not removed from email bodies
* Every outgoing email have a header saying that it was sent by trial version of software

* Internet access (via cellphone, CF modem, local network or similair)
* 250K of free storage memory for installation

What's new in version 2.2:

What's new in version 2.1:
* Support for MSN accounts
* HTML bodies are stored as attachments to be viewed with Pocket Internet Explorer

Version limitations:
* Emptying of deleted items - only "on connect/disconnect" option is fully supported. Although other options such as "Manually" or "Immediately" would remove mails from your PPC device's Deleted Items folder, it won't delete it from your Hotmail account, so next time you syncronize these mails could reappear. To solve this you should either clear that folder from your Hotmail account directly or use "on connect/disconnect" option. In the last case all messages from Deleted Items folder will be removed from both Hotmail account and PPC every time you syncronize.
* Encodings - Although the program is capable of receiving and displaying emails in virtually any encoding supported by your PocketPC, the only encoding avaliable for outgoing emails is standard us-ascii.

Installation instructions:
After installing the application with Microsoft ActiveSync, do the following:
• Launch your Pocket Inbox application.
• Tap on Services and select "New Service"
• Enter your Hotmail email address, for example somebody@hotmail.com , and tap Next.
• Tap on Skip button to process to the next screen
• Fill in your name, user name (including domain, ie me@hotmail.com or you@msn.com) and password. Check "Save password" checkbox if you don"t want the program to ask your password all the time. When finished, tap Next.
• Select "Hotmail" from the Service List listbox and name this account (ie. MyHotmail). Tap Next.
• Fill Incoming and Outgoing mail fields with "Hotmail". In Domain field specify your domain (ie Hotmail or MSN)
• That"s all. Now you should be able to synchronize your email account by tapping "synchronize" or "connect" button. Just make sure you established an Internet connection before synchronizing.
