I had the same issue a couple of weeks ago, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
Having the MSN app removed from the image I'm using forced me to look for an alternative means to getting my Hotmail (also a longtime user of that service for my personal mail).
What I found was the HTTPMail Provider on Handango. It's $10, but what it does is allow you to add your Hotmail account to the Messaging app like it was a POP/IMAP account. Unlike syncing mail via MSN, it's pretty fast and you can configure message size/attachment download like an Exchange/POP/IMAP account. It used to drive me crazy that the MSN client would take forever to download and then I'd have to do it a 2nd time to get the rest of longer messages.
