It's not really been discussed (others have mentioned it though). From my experimentation it can't be fixed. MS changed the signal strength icon to contain the data arrows and did not build in the ability for them to change color (I believe it is Sprint that requires all of its phones to have the interactive data arrows--maybe all CDMA carriers do).
I have verified (with help from helmi_c) that the file containing the old data arrow icons exists in the AKU 3 builds--the OS just doesn't use it. Sorry. |

question remains though: is it constantly sending data? even with the acbPowermeter application, I still cannot explain why my device now drains the battery to 20% or less by noon everyday when I start at 8 or 9am. I am using the stock battery, and I used to get until at least 5pm using the same apps. no automatic email retrieval here. the only change I haven't done is the activesync change to make it stop running in the background, but I'm not even sure this is a source of the problem?

My battery is actually better with 3.x (been running 3.5 just for today, but been troubleshooting activesync so she had a lot of juice, no way to tell)
I pulled MSN off my custom rom, it can decide to start and connect and never stop (thus killing the battery) acbPowermeter should show if you are pulling EVDO data. Idle w/evdo connected & idle is < 100ma (more like 20-30ma) Sleep is about 15ma, but not measurable via acbPowermeter Evdo active is 300ma+ and kills the OEM battery within 3.5 hours if its constant - its very obvious. Did you forget to turn off 'receive beams automatically'? Thats a very bad thing for your battery (constant sniffing, and if you happen to be around a lot of BT or IRDA noise, it powers way up to see if anyone is really sending....) |

one of the first things I do after setting up a new rom is turn off beams and changing my backlight/brightness. I have my brightness set to 3rd from the left (fairly low) and BT and wifi is always off, of course. right now I'm averaging 190mA and it seems every 30 seconds or so it jumps to 300mA or above. the lowest its dipped is 95mA. only 2 programs I'm running is Agile messenger and pie. I've never had a problem running Agile in the background bfore (as a matter of fact I have it on all the time and that was counted in my 9-5 battery life prior with aku 2 and aku 1). I'm even checking in TaskMgr and it doesn't show any msn programs or processes running, or activesync for that matter. this problem really has gotten somewhat disturbing as I'm worried if I buy a 3200 will it only last 1 day? btw my evdo/1xrtt signal is not changing often so I don't think that's the problem - its mainly EV with 3 bars about 90% of the time where I am. only time it changes is in the bathroom
btw average over the last 12 minutes (in writing this) is 198mA.. I barely use touch screen either (and haven't in the 12 minutes I'm writing this) so I don't think that is factoring into my problem. sledgie |

Yeah, that is very not good. You won't make it more then 6 hours on the OEM with that load.
TaskMgr/CPULoad shows no runaways? If not, it's just too much EVDO (Agile?) I assume its the same after a soft reset? Time to unload apps, and add em back one by one until it starts wigging out again, so you can find the one causing the problem. |

62mA at idle with backlight on (set to 3rd from left). fairly constant.
what's interesting is that I've been downloading a file and its average over 20 minutes is around 405mA.. a few times it peaked near 500... during that time I moved to one spot in my house where I only have 1xRtt coverage... the phone chnged to 1x and kept downloading.. however! the use went down to 350 average over 3 minute period (and it looks like roughly 315mA or so for 1x). speaking of which, I'm not sure if anyone knows this but if you are downloading a file and it happens to turn to 1x and you want to recover EV speeds (this is done in PIE of course) just make a phone call, hang up, and wait until 1x changes back to EV. PIE will ask if you want to continue downloading the file and of course, once it changes back to EV it will download/connect at EV speeds. |
