I don't think he was asking "Can I flash a different ROM if i don't like this one", that's pretty much assumed.

Basically whatever is on the phone after you flash it and hard reset is on there for good and cannot be uninstalled easily unless you have a pretty good idea of what you are doing (They can in general be registered as the first post indicates). The thing is that as has been pointed out previously a number of times, you can choose to not run the programs, keep them from starting up and ignoring them at essentially no cost in your usable space, they aren't in an area you would normally use anyways. Pick and choose a ROM based on the best match, don't worry about that extra bit you don't use, the only other realistic alternative at this time is to make your own, but that's more work then alot of people are willing to deal with.

Does anybody know why the data/Vision connection does not disconnect automatically? I just installed this ROM and setup push email with my exchange. Whenever it is turned on, the Vision Connection does not turn off. This is killing my battery. When I turn off the push email, it disconnects the EVDO connection

Whenever I click on the Icon on the top with the bars and arrows, it says 'Sprint PCS Vision' is Connected.

Ok, I have been using this ROM and really enjoy it, seems more usable and stable than the Helmi_C/Verizonguy Final ROM.

I did notice one thing right away that I have not been able to fix myself.

I can not figure out for the life of me how to re-assign button 5 HOLD, to the recorder function. It is assigned to notes.exe by default I can assign it to other functions in the pulldown, but the (Record) function is not listed.

I have tried with failure to copy the shortcut, run what I think is the application (hotvoice.exe), etc. It shows in the list of button assignments but it does nothing when I HOLD button 5.

I do alot of voice recording for my work, and it would be nice if I could fix this issue with someone's help.

Thank you,

That is completely normal for any ROM AKU 2.0 and later. The whole point of push mail is that your vision connection needs to stay in constant connection with the server because that's how e-mail is pushed out to you. And it does do a number on the battery... it's just a fact of life with these devices. If you want Push you will need to do other things to minimize battery drain (the backlight is a huge power sucker, wi-fi even greater). I keep my backlight on the lowest "on" setting and if I make/take a lot of calls I usually top up the battery throughout the day. I've also got a spare battery charging in the cradle if need be.

It wasn't this way with the last official ROM update. The battery never ran this quick. I put my backlight all the way down and it sill is going quick.

JCTiramai: It looks like I broke Hotvoice. I have not checked this since the 3.3 days (don't use it). You could try one of the earlier 3.3 roms but I will look at this and see if I can get it resolved as that should be functional . It looks like the bits are there it may be a supporting codec or reg key. I will do some hunting tonight.

Bleepjay, I have also noticed poor battery life after using Exchange Server Direct Push. I have made a couple of registry changes on the server that may help improve life. I will be testing all weekend and will keep you posted.

Anyone having issues with the Button 5 and voice command when locking their device???

When the device is locked (but out of sleep/suspend) button 5 should (with ROM defaults) activate MS voice command but I noticed that it is failing. I have to unlcok the device to activate Voice sommand.
I was able to get arouond it by removing the buttnon 5 hack that was included in the last releases (remove key: HKLM\Software\OEM\VoiceCommand) And this seemed to crrect the issue. I just need to know if others are seeing this as I will remove it from the next ROM if I can not get it corrected.

NOTE:
If you delete the key, you need to go back into buttons and assign button 5 to vc as "press an hold" and then "press" back to notes or something else. "press" will no longer work. Pressing button five will now be treated as a press and hold and start VC.

UPDATE: Instead of deleting the reg key above, revise it to instead have a BLANK path value. Again you need to change the path that the string path calls and just leave it blank instad of calling the exe. This is still a test and if verified I will get it in the FIXES section of the thread and in the next sp or release.

Yes. I can confirm that when it's locked, button 5 doesn't activate VC.

Anyone having issues with Internet Sharing.

I tried to tether using the following procedure;

Disable USB connection in Active synch.

Connect USB cord to PC and allow it to be recognized.

Open Internet Sharing in PPC.

The PPC is recognized by my computer, but in internet sharing, the connect button does not work (grey out).

Any ideas?
