By the way, where did things end up on the debate re: replacing the default Windows Media Player with TCPMP? It seems like that possibility just plain disappeared off the board.

My opinion is I could live without WMP, but Voice Command's advanced features like Next Track, Pause, etc. only work with WMP. With other players, Voice Command can only be used to Play (artist, album, anything, etc.) then you have to revert to hard buttons for other functionality.

I've always used the free ereader.com application. It's kinda big at 1.16mb.

HI before i make the switch i wanted to know:
currently using another 3.5
using weather panel (only internet app)

There seems to be a delay in putting calls though if there is an active ev connection, the dialing fails and i have to redial. if i make a call, then try to use ev there is a big delay in connecting.

Is this a 3.5 thing a signal thing or something else?

It didnt work this way out of the box
Thoughts?
Thanks.

I have noticed it too. On top of that I have had some connection issues that have required a reset.

In anycase, this rom is still much better than the original.

I really appreciate the hard work.

I'd kinda hate to see wmp go because of its compatibility with VC. However, I'd dump it in a second if someone finds a hack to make other players work with VC more completely. As to ebook readers, most books I download are in secure format, so I use one of ms reader, mobipocket, or adobe.

A big  on replacing wmp, at least until vc works completly as stated above.

Also, don't know what everyone's grief is with Audible player. But then again, I suppose you guys are just looking to actually do the reading yourself.
I, for one, LOVE Audible.com. Yep, going to marry it someday.

Years ago it was once one of the top new comers to the www alongside ebay and amazon.com. Interesting that it has lagged so far behind.
People will pay huge amounts for a spoonfed education, yet when it comes to supplementing it with their own studies...heh..
Herb Cohen has some good books out there...saved/made one Raging Idiot lots of $$
Chose this phone specifically for this. Not many others would work with AudiblePlayer format at that time.
It works just as well off the storage card, and probably not many people use it anyway, so I suppose it's really no big deal to not put it back in the ROM.

MS Reader, for better or worse, works and is required if you are using protected content. As for Audible, I tried it, but I've never been a books on tape person. I think I'm too impatient to listen to it be read to me, and I really don't like abridged works. With a printed version, I can read a page to two on-the-go when I get a moment (like standing in line, waiting in the airport, etc).

For movies, I have to honestly admit I still carry around my iPaq 4700. LOVE that screen.

As to the Reader, take a look at the installed directory and see if all the files are in one folder or in multiple (sub folders) . I would need one that runs out of a flat single folder to do this. Also one could try copying all the files from their subs to the root folder and see if it still works. This would be the key thing that would get the reader into the rom. For instance I did not get Adobe's pdf viewer in the rom as it was in multiple folders but xpdf ran from a flat folder and I was able to put it all in the windows folder.

As to WMP, I am not going to replace it in the rom. I did note that in an earlier post but just briefly. Reason is that anyone who would rather run tcpmp can make the changes themselves and the Rom has everything they need to do it built in so why make a drastic change for all. TCPMP runs A2DP better (Higher quality up to 70) and ORB better. WMP has a much better library and lookup as well as VC control and pause functions from an Ad2p headset. Both have benefits so I am trying to weigh the two on my own and figured this was a choice that everyone should make for themselves. A2dp, Quality, cataloging.. whats most importnat to you may not be for the next person On that note, if anyone can tell me why device.exe hots 99% cpu utalization for the first 20 seconds of WMP loading a song I am all ears as this is casuing the skipping in A2DP and requiring the lower setting. Pauseing WMP for 20 sec after loading a song will get past it, but just not practicle for everyday listening.

Raging Idiot: are you back on my rom? Just wondering if your other apps that were failing worked on the sp1. If not, just glad to see your still visitng us

Locks and Call Delays

As mentioned above I am also seeing delays in the following:

- Receiving a call, answer, and is taking 5 secs for audio to hit ear piece (non-bluetooth)
- Sending a call, long delay before calls is initiated and at times it doesn't even initiate, this is same area as your Sar.
- Screen locks up frequently; becoming uncomfortable with ROM at this point, looking for suggestions. I have hard reset the unit many times with the same results. At this point I have nothing installed but the ROM itself and still have lock ups.

Thanks for all the hard work..

VC-Out of Memory

saridnour,
Been a couple of days since the last post. I got a new phone believing the memory problems were dependent on the phone.

Bad news, its not the phone. The new phone is doing the same thing. MSVC works for a little while, and then quits due to low memory. Right now, I'm getting it to quit with PR5. I didn't even load anything in the extended ROM. This is the most stable I've had it, as the more stuff I load up, the easier and quicker the low memory strikes. Always on MSVC. Nothing else.

Here's how I install the ROM and voicecmd.exe. First, I soft reset the phone. Then, I put the phone into boot loader mode by holding down the power button and the #5 button (cassette) and pressing the reset butting. The phone displays "Serial". Connect the phone to the USB port on the computer. Screen changes to "USB". Then I launch "MaUpgradeUt_noID" from within the "sar_AKU3.5+_pr5" folder. After the update is complete, I disconnect the phone from the usb and perform a hard reset by pressing both soft keys and the reset key. Select "Y" and the phone resets. After the extended ROM loads, I perform a soft reset. Transfer the voicecmd.exe file to the windows directory, and perform another reset.

What am I doing wrong? I'm thinking I'm missing something stupid.
