I am only guessing however;
I think the skipping is due to: 1) the mini-sd card that is in the device at the time 2) how said card is formated 3) the bitrate of the file(s) 4) the buffering 'setting' in WMP 5) the bluetooth headset While that seems like a lot to think about you have to remember that the music coming out of the headset is still bits & bytes of data. If the card is slow, or formatted non-optimaly - it can't read the bits fast enough at first to fill the buffer - especially if the bitrate is high on the file played. The same concept goes for the delivery end - I'm sure some headsets have a better throughput than others w/ the MS bluetooth stack, while others will get more throughput from the widcomm stack. As well I'm sure there are other connection difference w/ differing headsets. In all these cases a larger buffer in WMP would help. However, being as I don't have a set of stereo headphones... 1) I don't have this problem 2) I don't want a larger buffer slowing me down Just tossing out what I've been thinking about since I first saw posts about skipping months ago. "LATER EDIT: Come think of it, I tried playing wma files in TCPMP without success before making these reg changes. The only thing I've been playing (successfully) in TCPMP is pls streams. Anybody else having a problem like that?"
Hmm, not sure. When I did this first step: - Associate TCPMP with Windows Media (.asx) in the TCPMP configuration (Options > Settings > Select Page > File Associations) I went ahead and checked all the boxes since ideally I'd like TCPMP to be my only player for audio/video. Try associating all file types in that step. I found this fix late last night and haven't had time to play with it today, but I tried it on several songs and artists last night and it worked like stock through my non-wireless earbuds/mic. Hopefully it's a good solution, cuz the lack of an equalizer in WMP makes the durn thing completely worthless for music. |

Is there a way for me to add this functionality back in now? Reg edit?
Thanks, Mike Quote:

mn3kgtvr4: As I explained, the "no sound" problem when playing wmp files in something I've noticed for awhile. It didn't bother me because VC didn't work with TCPMP; so, I was getting by with WMP. You indicated VC is controlling TCPMP. Have you tried "stop" and "next tract"? Do incoming calls pause playback and then resume afterwards? The only control that I can confirm is "play ...". I can see that it's playing; just can't hear it. Did you install any TCPMP plugins? Are you using the TCPMP that comes in sarindour's rom? TCPMP works with streaming pls files...
Raging Idiot: Thanks for your interest in the skipping problem. I've long thought it was a buffering problem mainly because I don't get skipping at all with other players, Conduit's player and TCPMP. It's not really that bad. I lose maybe 2 to 4 seconds in the playback of the first tract of an album. It's just annoying. I may try your buffering idea if nothing else works. nuguy: I'll experiment with the SD card. As I recall though, I get skipping even when I put the files in main storage memory. If so, I guess that would eliminate the card being the problem. I could also experiment with the bitrate. Most of my music comes off Napster and I think it has a really high bitrate. --jendand |

Yes, I'm using the TCPMP installed in Sardinaur's ROM here. Just playing at my desk I pulled up a wma music file from my storage card and got "stop" and "next track" to work with VC. I didn't even try that last night. I don't use a bluetooth headset and have never had a pause/resume problem with incoming calls using TCPMP that I recall. I just found this tip last night on some Treo forum when I was googling for fixes so will have to do some more playing around tonight. |

Ok Iv'e been out for a bit (with the flu) so are we now seeing WMA'a not playing in TCPMP? Ill have to check it when I get home unless someone has the dirt (anyone want to do a quick summary of the issues thus far, FAQ's only. Still playing catchup). It could be this last build of TCPMP causeing the issue. I may need to roll back to the earlier one.
As to skipping, songs do not skip from the devices storage, only the sd card in WMP so it seems to be a read issue. Would people rather see TCPMP as the default palyer if VC can control it? again I have just skimmped this and not read in detail, but if this is available, is that what people would want to see? I think I am game if it gets around the skipping but the last I ran TCPMP I did still have some skipping at the highest quality setting in ad2p. Still no update on Wisbar, was thinking of putting together PR5 with everthing so far less wisbar but now with all this?? Ok get me feedback ASAP and I will see what I can do this evening, but no promises.... PR5 now and PR6 with wisbar and possible the TCMP changes? Wait for one release later in the week with wisbar's update? Get everything into one change less wisbar and hope for the best as in TCPMP untested? -saridnour |

Vote for pr5 and pr5dev
Saridnour-
My vote would be to release two pr5s (both with all changes to date incorporated) ASAP (well, as soon as your recovery from flu permits): One with tcpmp as the default player (and get feedback re that dev version) - pr5dev, and One that does NOT have tcpmp as the default player - pr5. As far as the wisbar changes, wait for pr6 to release those. Also, I have been experimenting with shrinking apps in the dump folder of your ROM using UPX (LZMA) and rebuilding the resulting ROM. Please let me know if you want me to get this to you (and where to send), as I would be happy to do so. BTW - I use this shrunk down ROM to add my own apps (referenced in prior post by me in this thread), but I don't think you want that app-loaded ROM. |
