True, still seems excessive to use 24MB of the internal flash

Re what's in 2.2...

found on http://www.mobile-review.com/pda/art...m-aku-en.shtml

Quote:
Adaptation Kit Update 2.2

Compatibility with ActiveSync has been gotten better owing to the advent of ActiveSync Serial Switch utility. New ActiveSync 4.x has been initially set to use the RNDIS transport layer, but now you are granted the freedom to switch back to the old way (applied in Windows Mobile 2003 and earlier releases) in case you?re experiencing issues with pairing the device up with a PC. The developers have also managed to cut down time required for starting up Pocket PC by 15 seconds on average due to amplified caching algorithms. All other alterations are either beyond attention or target at patching up bugs.
So we already had the ActiveSync Serial Switch utility and the battery/time selection in the top status bar - so its basically faster boot and bug fixes.

Wideawake,
They are using UPX to compress all of the rom files before creating the nk.nbf file. This would effectively UPX compress all files stored in the rom, greatly reducing the ROM size. This allows plenty of room to add other apps into the main ROM, saving storage rom and drastically increasing the spead.

I have been interested in creating my own custom nk.nbf, I just haven't had the time. I did a dump of all files and registries from the 2.0 AKU in preparation to do it, at least UPX compress and recreate an unencrypted nk.nbf

If you are talking about creating a custom 2.2 .nbf, then please entertain the thought of UPX compressing the files first. This may work with a custom ms.nbf, but would have less value than UPX compressing the nk.nbf.

Hope this makes since.
-Paul

makes great since paul. heck I didn't even think of that. I may give that a go. As far as upx'n the ext rom I doubt it, I found a compression method over at xda that will allow a decent amount of programs to be compressed to a .exe that is installed unzips to the temp folder and installs from there then removes after its finish. I haven't triedit but I'm almost 100% sure it will work. And yea I'm working on a custom aku2.2 rom I find it better than 2.0 imho. But I wonder what can and cannot be UPX'd guess theres only one way to find out! And thanks for filling me in.

WA- first off, congrats on the new ppc... i've been off of this site for 1 whole day b/c i spent the whole day with the fiance'... phones were off for 12hrs, we only tuned them on to see if their were any voicemails... but anyway, when do u expect to release the custom extended rom? and what does your custom rom include (the one u made for yourself)? many of us may have the same programs, even if its not freeware. u don't have to list it here if you don't want. but feel free to shoot me a PM

Wideawake,
Are you using the latest version of UPX?

http://buzzdev.net/component/option,...ileinfo&id=354

Compressing things like ppt.exe would gave you tons of room, assuming the compression works, of course. There are all versions of custom roms on this site UPXed/nonUPXed, tools, 3.x aku, etc. I didn't know if you ever used Buzz's site for information or tools.
