fabrijack,

i did the below to rehide the extended rom, you need to do this also: this was posted somewhere else but i forgot where

"After you installed all the programs that you want to install to your ExtendedRom, you have to hide the ExtendedRom as "HKLM/System/StorageManager/Profiles/TRUEFFS_DOC1/MountHidden to 1.

Then, you will not see the ExtendedRom but you can type "/Extended_ROM2" in the address bar and reach it. After you hide the ExtendedRom, the email attachment will be saved to the Storage Card"

fabrijack 11-17-2007 10:20 PM

thanks so much. I will try that. I found the camera button in the windows/application buttons and copied it to windows/start menu/programs and it showed up everywhere I needed it.

fabrijack 11-17-2007 10:22 PM

Thanks so much. I will try that. What reg editor is everyone using?

On my other issure. I found the camera button in the windows/application buttons and copied it to windows/start menu/programs and it showed up everywhere I needed it. Hopefully that will help someone else.

fabrijack, try resco or total commander

Help!

Your rom for the 6700 now has my (my wife's) sprint ppc 6700 working better than my Mogul! It is great, stable and I'm sorry I didn't know about it before I bought the Mogul! One request if you could, please tell me where I can find the cab for the arcsoft mms composer in the 6700 extended rom as I would like to try it on the mogul (can't get the posted 3.0.6.22 version to work for me!) This is not a BS request but very important!
Thanks so much for all your work! You're great!:headbang:

demod,
Your right. These downloads are not self-executing. This is the shorthand version:
-Download the right archive file for your carrier. Unpack it by opening with a suitable utility (try winrar.com free trial) and extracting to the desktop.
-Put your phone in bootloader mode (simultaneous record, power, reset)
-Connect phone by USB to computer
-Run APACUpgradeUt_noID.exe by double clicking
-when flash is done, remove phone
-hard reset
-soft reset when customization count down comes up.

Have fun.

hi, i am fairly new to this site an i am currently running kirivn 3.5 no junk rom. How does this rom compare to that in terms of stability, battery life etc? i forgot to add will i have to re enter all my contacts again or after upgrading will they come back to the phone after resyncing with activesync?

sorry if these are dumb questions.

Well, I ran Kirvin's 3.5 no junk for a long time and it was one of the most stable roms I ever ran on my apache! Personally, I don't know what anybody else thinks, but I think WM6 is just plain more stable over WM5 OS-wise. You could always give it a try and flash back to WM5 if you don't like it. Also, your contacts should restore themselves if you sync with activesync afterwards. As a good precautionary measure, I also backup all my contacts with an app called PIM Backup, then I save the backup to my storage card, works great!

Rob, I'm having several lock ups with this new version, I pick up the phone to surf or make a call and I'm obligated to a soft reset almost all the time, also refering to the title of this post, what customization countdown? I'm running Sprint version and none of your roms asked for that after flashing the phone, how you do that?

Thanks

aguaron,
I'm not Rob, but since you quoted me I'll reply.
After a hard reset, you initialize the screen and set the time, then typically a window pops up saying something like, "will begin customizing your phone in 3, 2, 1 seconds". After this, the phone loads all your carrier customizations that a) make it work seamlessly with the network - good; b) impose limits on what you can do with the phone or fill up the memory with useless junk - bad.
Although not universal, when a rom is released for a specific carrier, usually the rom-cooker (Rob in this case) has built-in the good customizations and left out the bad ones. Allowing customizations to run on top of what's already in the rom causes problems, so we interrupt them by soft-resetting (stylus in hole) at the right time.
I don't use this rom and offered comments simply to keep things moving along. If Rob does things differently now, then I'm sorry for misleading you and defer to any comments he has.

rxb216 11-18-2007 03:58 PM

Rob, the first program i installed was MSVC 1.6 (to the progam memory, not storage card), and noticed that slidesound now always crashes. Even after uninstalling MSVC, slidesound still crashes when you close the keyboard. Even if I manually start the program again, it will always crash when you close the keyboard.

I saw the thread at http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=7019&page=3

and i get the same error as what "adrian2pm" mentions.

Tiermann says that we need to have .net CF 2.0 or higher, so does this ROM have this?

Also what version of slidesound is this? 1.07??

EDIT: I just installed the 1.07 version, same issue, but this time crash happens when i open the keyboard, it would be nice to have a fix for this as the program is pretty cool
EDIT: the program crashes randomly, sometimes with keyboard going out, or going back in

rxb216 11-18-2007 04:37 PM

aguaron,

If your customizations did not run after you installed Rob's rom, then chances are likely that your extended rom was blank in the first place. If you previosly installed a 3rd party ROM, like the ones from ppcgeeks, some of them wipe the extended rom.

Rob's roms for sprint/verizon already have the carrier customizations built in, so unless you are installing his "generic" version, you won't need the sprint cabs that were originally in your extended rom

I'm a complete newbie to roms, extended roms, flashes, bootloader, etc.

But I have to say, I spent a few hours going through this thread and was able to successfully upgrade to build 7 and am totally blown away!

Much thanks and props to everyone involved!

yotoad 11-19-2007 02:14 PM

still watching this thread like a hawk to see if b7 is the one for me . . . i'm still running kirvin's 3.5 rom and it has been great -- i've got the jitters, i guess?

spn9999 11-19-2007 04:52 PM

Is there a fix for getting the device to recognize the SD storage card memory? Right now the extended ROM is also recognized as "storage card" and when trying to save mail/attachments/pictures/etc. to "storage card" it's the extended ROM that comes up as the storage card option.

rxb216 11-19-2007 05:25 PM

I'll do a more detailed writeup later, but this ROM has been rock solid.

In fact I am using the included overclocker program to run at 624Mhz, and the thing flys like the wind. I left kirvin 3.5 earlier and rob's B7 is a great replacement, just do it!

My only peave is the included slidesound is NOT working(see my earlier post), i WANT THIS TO WORK!!! someone, please help me on this!! :(

spn,
Pocket Outlook is still not able to see past the Extended Rom. The only workaround is to re-hide it using the following registry keys:

HIDDEN: (Original Setting)
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\AutoLoad\ TRUEFFS_DOC1]
"Bootphase"=dword:00000001
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\ TRUEFFS_DOC1]
"MountHidden"=dword:00000001

SHOWN:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\AutoLoad\ TRUEFFS_DOC1]
"Bootphase"=dword:00000002
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\ TRUEFFS_DOC1]
"MountHidden"=dword:00000000

After making registry changes, did you turn off, wait 30 seconds, then soft reset?

spn9999 11-19-2007 06:14 PM

Ok this fix worked. Many thanks!

TMB_XV6700 is correct, i forget to add the soft reset at the end, you should not need any more edits to your registry...

You're right... that "MountHidden" change in the "Profile" reg works on its own. For some reason it didn't take the first time I did it. Works now.

Thanks to you both.

Catman51 11-19-2007 07:23 PM

Well, I've done it, actually the second time is a charm.
Like a moron, I installed and did the Sprite Bup Rom upgrade, which was stupid.
I'm now hand installing everything from scratch, and it's working great.
Only question, what is the TouchFlo that's in the rom, doesn't seem to do anything?

ecolon42 11-19-2007 09:08 PM

i have the xv6700 and i am a noobie. i would like to install wm6 upgrade and my question is does this upgrade come ready to install. do i have to add to it or do any thing special after extracting it or just simply follow these instructions

-Download the right archive file for your carrier. Unpack it by opening with a suitable utility (try winrar.com free trial) and extracting to the desktop.
-Put your phone in bootloader mode (simultaneous record, power, reset)

Catman,
On a screen with scroll bars (other than an excel spreadsheet), the touchflo allows you to scroll by sliding your thumb or finger along the middle of the screen. Very cool; I actually removed it though because my fingers made the screen too greasy.

Catman51 11-19-2007 09:46 PM

Thanks, didn't quite understand how it worked.

newgun 11-19-2007 11:42 PM

MMS Working for this ROM?

I installed the ROM (B7 for Sprint), it's quite stable. The only thing that doesn't work for me is the MMS: when selecting "Send" from various picture programs, the option "Text Messages" always grays out. On the other hand, I was able to select "Text Messages" after launch Messaging and do MMS configuration from the MENU, but it just won't send.

bengraves 11-20-2007 03:51 AM

Is anyone using this ROM with Goodlink?

kfsinc 11-20-2007 09:38 AM

150 Error??

Newbie here -- I've had a 6700 for about 2 years, but gave up on it 23 months ago. I've been looking at this thread and a few others most of the night and am very anxious to upgrade to WM6. I'd now like to bringit back to life. I upgraded to the current Verizon version of the ROM two days ago and now I'm trying to upgrade to WM6

I've down loaded anda followed directions, but still get the 150 error -- this isn't for your device. I'm running the V1.04 uploader. Sync sees my 6700 just fine and it switchs to USB, just won't install.

Any suggestions??

Thanks in advance for everyone's help!!

kfs

yotoad 11-20-2007 12:04 PM

rxb216, looking forward to reading your write-up! hoping this is the right wm6 rom for me!

bengraves 11-20-2007 01:00 PM

This is quite a thread, read through it until the wee hours....

How do I determine which bootloader I have on my XV6700? The ROM is 2.07.20. It sounds to me like running the updated bootloader can cause problems when flashing the ROM. I have struggled with this phone for over a year (dropping calls, constant screen misalign, broken joysticks, slow operation, lock ups, trouble answering/switching to incoming calls, bricked itself - no hacks or tweaks, etc.). I just received a new replacement and want to set it up correctly from the beginning.

Thank you to everyone here for providing such a valuable service! I am worried about compatibility with Goodlink but I figure if it is a problem I can always flash back to WM5.

TMB_XV6700 11-20-2007 01:16 PM

bengraves,
To check your bootloader, push in the reset button while pressing and holding the power and record buttons - this puts your phone into bootloader mode. Then hold it up to a light and read the numbers on the screen. Simple soft reset returns you to normal. BTW, your rom version says the last Verizon update wasn't loaded on your phone, so you should be good to go with an older bootloader.

Just to clarify: Do NOT load the last Verizon update. The newest bootloaders (2.04/2.05) are less desirable than the older bootloaders.

bengraves 11-20-2007 02:20 PM

I have 2.02, thank you for the help.

I like the touchflo.
Can you include this in the next build? It is a touchflo config tool

spn9999 11-20-2007 04:28 PM

My apologies if this has been asked already (did a search but didn't see anything)... is there a way to return the "NEW" button on the left soft button for SMS text messages? In the old WM5, "NEW" was there / now it's "DELETE" and force of habit has me accidentally hitting "DELETE" when I want to start a new message.

yotoad 11-20-2007 04:40 PM

Rob, really good so far -- i finally bit the bullet and went ahead with your build 7 -- a couple of things -- i really liked the HTC x button that was in kirvin's 3.5 -- anybody have a cab of it? also, what about that battery meter at the top of the screen? and the htc home customizer for this version -- where can i find that?

spn9999 11-20-2007 06:27 PM

Another question... does anyone know how to speed up the response time for the phone dialer buttons to light up when you touch them? Quickly tapping your fingers on the buttons DOES dial the number but does not light up the buttons they way they do if your finger lingers a little bit longer on them. Is there a way to speed up the response time?
