just thought I'd throw a few pennies in here. I went from stock xv6700 to this alpha 2 build from verizonguy (which btw - instructions were easy and install perfect) - funny enough, i had a reason today to call 911 from my vehicle.

What I found is that placing the 911 call and everything was perfectly fine. went right through conversation took place and hung up. However, what i noticed was that after this phone call, I could no longer place other calls. I went to call my fiance after 911 and found the phone would say "connecting...." then simply stop. I attempted to call a few numbers, but the phone would never get to the "ringing" stage (or even when the timer would start for a phone call). A soft reset later the phone was working again.

hope this helps out. (Not sure if it matters, radio was version 1.41)

odd, i reported a drunk driver running it without any problems. Still working on dialer/canvas right now, so this is far from the final version of the dialpad.

so far i have had no problems with the new rom running it on verizons xv6700

Lock-ups

Anyone else having issues with the phone locking up when a call comes in. I can't answer it, (either with the green phone button, or the soft-key for ANSWER).

Strangely enough, I had this issue all the time with an older phone (also a 6700) running WM5. When I got a new phone under warranty (for another issue) the problem went away. I ran the 3.5AKU for a while, then Helmi's WM6, then Verizonguy's. Been fine up until the other day, when this issue popped back up.

Not running any other software not included in ROM.

Any one else?

I had that alot in older versions of other ROM's. Never had a single issue of it with WM6. Are you using intellisync, or activesync/push etc? data connection? need more specifics.

feedback

I've been using this rom for a couple days now. compared to the Helmi_c release it is an improvement. more avail storage = no lockups. Also the battery life is double. seems a whole day now on a charge vs 1/2 - 3/4 day. I installed the wifi psk fix and it works great.

The only thing I would like to change is - it always returns to the today screen, even when manually pushing the power button. Seems to be a wm6 thing and the time out setting doesn't change this. I would love any input on this.

Thanks for a great pre-kitchen ROM!

Using Vista, it's native Windows Mobile. But it's not always freezing when sync'ed, but also sometimes when it's in my pocket. Running data-connection, but have Exchange push mail set for checking every 15 minutes to save some battery. And typically keep BT off for the same reason.

keschrich 10-02-2007 11:00 AM

I've just updated my XV6700 and have noticed two problems:

1) I can't get into the contacts application. It appears as if it's loading, "Contact" shows up in place of start, the close button appears in the right corner.. However the rest of the screen remains as it was before, and after about a second "Contact" returns to "Start" and the close button disappears.

2) I havn't had a chance to play to much with it, but I cannot seem to sync with Outlook 2k3. I saw a previous comment about this but no solution..

Any thoughts? Thanks a lot all, and especially verizonguy

UPDATE:
Regarding point 1, I've tried installing PocketCM via the cab file on it's site. The install goes fine, however when I try to run it it flashes for a second and then closes.

2, After sitting for a while seemingly doing nothing, ActiveSync reports that there is not enough memory on the device to do the sync and recommends closing programs on the device. I checked the Running Programs section under Memory, and the only thing running is ActiveSync itself..

Could these problems then be related? I'm assuming that my phone has no less memory than anyone else's... Surely ~70 contacts isn't too many to sync!

TMB_XV6700 10-02-2007 11:40 AM

keschrich,

1. Did you hard-reset after flash and interrupt the verizon customizations with a soft reset?

2. Classic symptom of saving email attachments to "storage card" while leaving your extended rom unlocked. If you want to save attachments to storage card, you need to relock the extended rom - there is a simple registry tweak - http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...=7671&page=119

Actually I'm not even trying to sync email. Furthermore I don't have a minisd card loaded as I typically have used the phone more for calendar and contact info, although I was thinking of picking one up soon...

Anyway, I tried applying the registry fix that you posted, and that didn't seem to do anything, which I guessed since I wasn't syncing email... Out of frustration I tried clearing my storage, and basically starting from scratch.. Surprisingly it works now. I'm not sure why, but I guess I'm happy :)

verizonguy 10-02-2007 12:48 PM

devel3 is coming in the near future, but i'm still ironing out the dialer issues before posting it for testing. It's a pretty cool update as it eliminates the need to interrupt the customization, includes the fixes for wpa & new office support, etc but I have to fix the dialer issues.

I was having the same problem with my phone. It was intermittent though. I could answer the phone sometimes but it would freeze up other times.

After reinstalling the latest stock Verizon ROM from UTStarcom's site (and downgrading my radio from 1.41 to 1.10), I could no longer make any outgoing calls!!! Anyway, after a few days on the phone with the tech support guys, they sent me a new phone.

I hope your problem doesn't get as bad as mine did. Good luck.

keschrich 10-02-2007 02:50 PM

Any suggestions on how to improve outgoing bluetooth volume? When calling my voicemail the prompts sounded just fine, but when I recorded a message and played it back it sounded like I was whispering..

I tried adding the MicVolume DWORD key the the registry and setting it at a fairly high value (17), as I had done with WM5, but it seemed to have no effect whatsoever on WM6..

neo1982 10-02-2007 05:52 PM

Just posting up more findings - It seems that the phone is not ringing everytime a call comes in. i watched my phone before as i was expecting a call from my fiance, i saw the phone light up but no ringing, i went into menus and found answer call and there she was. Also - not sure if its related to the build or not (for reference i have added 0 programs to the phone, I only have what came on the rom) but the alarm doesn't repeat ring. It just makes the (sound) once, and ends. hardly wakes me up :)

Verizonguy,

Fantastic work... I've been running devel2 since it came out. 3 simple things that I personally would love to see...

1. I use the MS VoiceCommand 1.6 (I have over 2000 contacts on my 6700 so VSD is a dog!) so have no need for the Voice Speed Dial program ....If I don't use it I know it's taking up space. Do other people agree that getting rid of Voice Speed Dial would be helpful in saving space. ....That way people can add it in if they need it...
2. Is this the official WM6 sound theme ...I remember hearing a different sound theme (...for program selection taps there were different cool sounds, etc ...not the typewriter key tap sound we have now) on a different "quasi-version of WM5 that was emulating WM6 themes, etc.
3. I like the VistaHide Battery Gage... I install it at every upgrade but it seems like it's small and simple enough that it could be included in dev3.

Again, Great work and looking forward to devel3 ...I pray before Friday night??? (love to have it before I go on vacation!)

I'm getting really jealous. This is great for Verizon users. Any Sprint users that could do something like this? I tried, but didn't get very far. ](*,)

robmayer 10-03-2007 10:49 AM

I know this might be kind of an insignificant request, but I was wondering if there was any way you could put back the HTC boot logo in devel3? Great work by the way. Thanks verizonguy!

Lock ups and no phone calls

First of all thanks for this mod. It seems to be working *far* better than helmi's.

But I'm also having problems with incoming phone calls as well. I either can't answer them, or the phone locks up.

In addition, I'm having a problem where my screen blanks out every now and then, the only way to fix it is to reset with the keyboard pulled out.

Also, it appears that the hard buttons on my phone are randomly unresponsive.

Any suggestions?

masters 10-03-2007 02:27 PM

I wonder what the chances would be for one of these updates to have a built-in support for SDHC?

I haven't experienced anything like that yet. Maybe try hard resetting or re-flashing.

As for the alarm repeating, by default it doesn't keep repeating, but you can simply change that in the settings.

I haven't looked at volume issues that. That will be on the list. I agree that speaker volume overall seems a bit quieter.

It shouldn't be a problem. The SHDC support is a software limitation and not a hardware limitation. It is on the listâ„¢

I'm trying to leave the rom as organic as possible as what you would normally see in a stock htc release. I may eventually release one with cabs to customize such things, but no guarantees.

This is Helmi's rom. I'm just fixing issues & polishing it :) Honestly I haven't looked into that yet. The asthetics will come later on. I'm working on functionality right now.

I'm not familiar with that. Is it a customized display for the battery meter or hiding the battery meter? I think I'd like to keep that as stock as possible in the base rom. Once things are polished a bit and functional, I'll have a 2nd rom with customizations. I'm trying to keep the first one as vanilla as possible.

Quote:

Thanks, it all depends on progress on the dialer.

The stock dialer that came with the rom once you remove the phone canvas customizations is pretty far off from what we've been using so it is taking a TON of trial & error to get it properly fixed instead of just a workaround.

johnjirwin 10-03-2007 04:36 PM

VerizonGuy,

VistaHide Battery Gage is simply a solid line that appears above the settings (at the very top of the screen) that changes color depending on the power sorce, charge left, etc. dosn't take up hardly any realestate and at a very quick glance I know how the battery is doing.

I do see the little checkbox next to enable alarm that says "repeat alarm" however its been checked (and re-checked) no dice. :)

NOTE: IF YOU ARE USING HELMI'S ORIGINAL VERIZON WM6 ROM OR MY DEVEL1 EDITION, YOU NEED TO UPDATE YOUR ROM ASAP. There is a huge safety issue. The 911 functionality is completely broken in all verizon roms < devel2. If you dial 911, your phone will lock up.

I was sorta hoping for a Dev3 or other version to clean up the other annoyances... I'm hoping for sometime before the end of the week.. But I don't want anything rushed so it's done well..

This is fine if you dont run anything like intellisync that runs in the tray. Alot of us do.

Also, this thing has been to known to produce memory problems for certain people, and it is shareware.

Awesome Job

I have the second version of this ROM on my VX6700 and all I can tell you is that it works really well. Congrats to Helmi for starting this and to VerizonGuy for extending it for us VZW users. I even incorporated the MSVC 1.6 fixes and my VX6700 now rocks. What more do we need now?

If there is any way you would consider doing this for Sprint...
I don't want to hard reset and just go back to the same "old" thing. LOL
Will the old Kitchen work to do anything on the WM6 ROM or are you really doing all of this from scratch?

Peace.

Hey VerizonGuy:

I can't wait to get home and try out r3. I have a couple of quick questions:
1. Do we still need to interrupt the installation during the count-down to stop the default vzw configs from taking place?

2. I am unfamilure with *22899; I have usually done a *228 followed by prompt #2; Can you (or someone else) explain the differences better *22899, *228+prompt 1 and *228+prompt 2 ?

3. Like other users, I have many contacts - if I use the PIM BACKUP program prior to your release 3, will I be able to use it after?

Thanks again for all your work!

johnjirwin 10-05-2007 11:28 AM

*228 is usually ment for regualr cell phones. If you call Verizon Data Support (a higher level of support for smart phones like ours) they tell you to use *22899 which does a few little extra programming steps for us big boys in big boy pants!

I always use *22899 for my xv6700 and treo700W at least monthly. For my wife's razor I used *228 option 2.

Gonna go and load up Delev 3 now!

*228 has 2 options. Option 1 programs the phone with your information OTA (over the air). Option 2 updates your PRL (preferred roaming list). *22899 is used by cell techs. It automatically does both options 1 & 2 without interaction from you.

That should be fine, but I recommend syncing with your pc also, as that should keep a copy in your outlook profile too.

Thank you for this wonderful work...its making my phone more enjoyable. I want to do every upgrade that comes out to test however I prefer not to have to reconfigure and reinstall again and again. is there a way to backup the entire ppc settings including installed programs, htc home setup, ringtones for contacts, etc etc and then restore all of it after the hard reset without losing the new features put in by the new version which at the moment is 3?

EDIT: Here are my current issues I notice

-Sometimes in a call, the phone totally freezes except for the call itself. I can hear the person and speak to them, but the timer and interface is 100% frozen. No choice but to soft reset. Happened a few times. Its possible this is related to something else, I will investigate, but wanted to mention it.

-I have a single text message from a friend that is bold still, after reading it. I cannot mark this message as read, I cannot move it, I cannot delete it. I just stays there looking new with no way to get rid of it. My today screen does say I have no unread messages though.

-My voicemail indicator has not gone away at all. Every soft reset, the phone pops up there is a new voicemail, when there is no new voicemail. The notification icon on the top stays, when I click it, it says I have one new voice mail, however like I said I do not.
