Solved Startup Password problem -- maybe?

I think I found a fix for a problem that a couple of people have reported on this thread with the password lock feature.

I used to use a simple sequence of numbers for my phone lock, since the lock was turned on by my exchange server's policy, and not by myself. (In other words, the security was important to my email admins, not really to me -- I don't work in a sensitive area of the company.)

I haven't verified this, but I think that using the same sequence on this ROM, caused me to not be able to "log in" to the phone after a reset, since the Unlock button (softkey 1) didn't respond, and neither did the corresponding screen tap.

After a hard-reset to get back in, I noticed that the Lock settings panel complains if you try to enter a code like 0000, the device complains that this is too simple a code, and to choose something harder to guess. (I'm paraphrasing.)

I think the problem was that I'd used a simple code like this when I initially set up the device, and then later after I connected to my exchange server, the policy changed such that the code I'd used was no longer allowed. But instead of letting me in with the invalid code, and then requiring that I change it, I simply got locked out of the device.

Now it may be the case that I can use OWA (on my company's exchange server) to reset my device's lock code, but I didn't get that far, since I tried a more complex code after resetting the device, and didn't want to reset again to re-test.

It may also be the case that I've completely made up the cause above, based on a quirk of timing, and rather than helping anyone by debugging this, I'm just confusing the situation.

Fortunately at least, I'm one of only a couple of people who have had this problem, unless it's become a much bigger issue across say the last 100 or so posts on this now totally mammoth thread.

Talking Critical Bug Fixes

Helmi,

You are a genius. That being said, I wanted to alert you to some issues I've uncovered using your WM6 rom. First and most important is a problem with the soft reset. I'm using a verizon xv6700 and occassionally the device will lock the phone application and not allow you to get back to the today screen, normally a soft reset would allow me to start fresh. However after two or three soft resets that no longer becomes an option. The device will become frozen on the windows mobile splash screen and then requires a hard reset to make it functional again. This happens both with and without the verizon customizer instaled. Lastly one suggestion on an application to include in any kitchen or extended rom image is Sirius WM5 or Sirius GTX. Small application but I would wager a lot of people use it. Keep up the good work.

Startup Password problem - Me2

I too have the password issue and I went even as far as reloading the WM6 ROM. I haven't encountered any other issues yet. The only solution I have is to try again when the password interface locks up. I'm concerned because of the safety aspect in case of emergency I might not be able to make a call.

It's been happening mostly when I start the phone up. With respect to the previous posting by jsavin, my password was a complex one from the beginning. My company also enforces the exchange password.

I believe there is something wrong with the password interface out of the box. They made a change to it from WM5 in that it shows the message that an emergency call can be made.

I would love to find an aswer for this issue.

Yesss!

Took the plunge last night and installed this. Installation was painless and everything works beautifully! The only issues that exist at this time have to do with programs I used to use which may need updating or some kind of work-around to get them to work. I followed the instructions provided on the first page of this thread, then did a soft reset right before Sprint customisations were set to begin (during the countdown).

Programs and features that I'm pleased to see included this build and are running fine:

Deepfish
1-Calc Lite (this is an essential app!)
Some new games
Ext ROM Unlocker
Java (oh yes...it's about time)
Pocket RAR
Resco Registry Editor (I was using PHM Registry Editor for a long time)
SMS Backup
SMS functionality
HTML mail functionality
HTC Home
Encryption utility

Probably several others as I discover them...

Programs that I'm running which are functioning well:

Sunnysoft Backup Manager
Picsel Browser
Pocket Mechanic
SMS Threader
Total Commander
Tweaks2k2.net
WeatherPanel (with the latest .dll that deals with the recent changes)

Programs that I have run in the past which are now having issues:

MS Voice Command 1.5
Informed ALS/Paramedic Field Guide (which uses SuperWaba VM)

IMPRESSIONS:

It appears to me that my PPC6700 is functioning noticably better than it did before. It seems more responsive. I THINK I have marginally better reception but I could also be hallucinating. I love the GUI...seems more friendly and a little cleaner. The HTC home bit, well...the jury is still out but it looks good. Maybe my impression of it will improve as I continue to play with it. I'd like to make the "Home" time a little smaller. Just seems to take over about 1/3 of the screen. However, what's really nice about the HTC Home is I have set it to poll my Windows Live Mail account at regular intervals, which is nice. There is an option "synchronise as items arrive" which seems tantamount to push email but that doesn't seem to work?

GRIPES:

"Unlock" softkey button after you enter your password. Duh-mb. Thanks MS for making a simple thing complicated (again). So far, that's it....

Now, I'm off to read up on bugs/fixes and hacks (will try to apply some of my old ones that I prefer to see what they do, if they're needed).

helmi...you are THE MAN! I'll make a donation toward the cause. Keep up the good work! Your efforts are truly appreciated! =D>

While I have had a great time playing dopewars, the phone has been running really slow, while typing text messages it's like it can't keep up with my typing, also I'll receive double texts, it's just not one person this has happened with multiple people. Also when I dialed 911 it has crashed the phone.

Now I'm not complaining about this, saying wah this free thing you did doesn't work etc. But I would like to know what info I need to give so I can help these issues get resolved. I'm pretty good with this stuff I'm an IT guy, with some programming knowledge. So if there are any tests, logs or whatever I can provide to help, I'm all in.

Question removing the extended rom

Does anyone know how to remove the extended rom. It seems that emails want to direct to that as my storage card not my 1 gig mini sd. Any suggestions?

Wifi WPA PSK not working?

Just got the phone today and installed this upgrade. So far so good I'm loving everything except my wifi isn't working with WPA and a pre shared key. I can connect to an unsecured access point easy enough and with wm5 I was able to connect to my WPA access point but now it won't connect. It keeps saying my key is incorrect and I know it is correct. Anyone have any information on this issue?

Quick question I installed this from Kirv's No_Junk. I have the PPC6700 and everything is working great. Many post are mentioned about NOT letting the customizations run, my problem is I never get the countdown 3,2,1 etc. I go from Screen alignment to date/time then start using device......Normal?

Open your favorite registry editor, change the value of "MountHidden" from 0 to 1:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\ TRUEFFS_DOC1]
"MountHidden"=dword:00000001
