Possibly a learning experience..... Waiting for the re-reload
BUT since downloading and installing per instructions, I can no longer get my xv6700 to turn on!

My steps:
Plugged into the USB, backed up everthing

Entered Bootloader mode (i have 1.00 according the the screen)
I then double clicked the install file on the main computer, went through the steps
The screen told me to soft reset, I did NOT do this, I unplugged and did the HARD reboot (following the instructions)......

It asked Y or N, i pushed Y, it said "Clearing" then "Clearing OK" and the screen went blank, never booting again

So im re-doing the install right now, this time im going to follow the onscreen instructins first

I hope it works.

Update:

My problem was I followed everything TOO literally....

The instructions say
Quote:
Quick How to:
1. Put your device in bootloader mode (RECORD+POWER+RESET) and click APAC_WM6_R0_[Ur Operator name].EXE then click install wait till it finish.
2. Then Left Softkey+Right Softkey+Reset and then press Y (Hard Reset)
3. Done
The instructions should say
Quick How to:
1. Put your device in bootloader mode (RECORD+POWER+RESET) and click APAC_WM6_R0_[Ur Operator name].EXE then click install wait till it finish.
2. When it finishes do a SOFT RESET
3. Done

After this, its now installed and now im going to go play

I love it so far! In just the few minutes i've played with it

My only complaints though, is all this extra crud I don't need nor want

the list of thigns I'd love to remove easily are:

Adobe Reader LE:
1-Calc Lite... (windows Calc is just fine)
pocketrar
yahoo go 2.0
Office Mobile
And half of these games (unless they are default in WM6).

That would free up some onboard memory.... and just take away the clutter feeling when i go into "programs"

BUT HECK, I LOVE IT, it looks great, it works great so far!

OK, I'm a newbie to ROM upgrades, but not to PPCs. I've never tried this, so be gentle. I say that upfront.

From all I've read, this is the way to go to finally make the XV6700 what I had thought it should be. The real question I have is how to do it. I read the front page with a Quick How To:, but I don't want to screw it up. Do I just load the file to the root, then do the BootLoaderMode? All my data is backed up to my storage card.

I don't have the 59 MB free to place it on the 6700. Can I put it on the storage card and run from there? Do I need to delete everything and load it on the 6700?

I would appreciate some newbie help. I can't be playing with it for several days to make it work. This is my lifeline and if it goes badly I'm screwed. That said, if all goes well, you'll have another convert.

You don't have to add any files on your PPC / Storage card. The upgrade program needs to be started by doubleckicking the exe from your PC after you have put your PPC in bootloader and connected via ActiveSync.

1. Plug Phone into USB, save all important info to your main PC
2. Enter Bootloader Mode (Record + Power + Soft Reset)
3. Run the exe install file FROM YOUR MAIN PC, not your phone's storage
4. Once it installs the file, and uploads it to your phone, you will get instructions to unplug and do a soft reset...DO THE SOFT RESET, DO NOT DO THE HARD RESET AT THIS STEP
5. Phone will restart and load like it was new... Sit back, play with your new toy and Enjoy

My computer can't see my phone when it bootloader mode. Any ideas?

I can get the phone into bootloader mode, it shows Serial up top and version 1.0 on the bottom. However, when I plug it into my PC, no matter which USB port I use (not using a hub), it never changes over to USB mode. The computer says can't recognize USB device and that's it.

Please help

Why the serial change?

Ok, so I'm a bit curious about a couple of things. It seems that the Serial Number that was reported in GoodLink changed from my original WM5 install where the serial was shown as ESN:ABCDEFGH After the install of Helmi_c's ROM, I noticed that the serial number showed up as: IMSI:0030AAABBBCCCC where my ten-digit phone number is the last of that string. I'm curious if this is expected behavior, and if any others with Sprint phones noticed this change, and if it caused any problems?

Specifically, I'm trying to correlate whether that change could have anything to do with my failure to get GoodLink working, while rspppcgeeks has been successful with his Verizon, which presumably wouldn't have changed Serials (or at least in the same manner as mine did!).

Thanks, all, the help has been great!
