No, it should only take 10s or so to get past the HTC screen. Try hard resetting, put the phone back into bootloader, then reflash either with wm6 or with the stock rom (preferably)? I would try that next.

<edit>
Also, which specific rom are you loading?
</edit>

I can hold off on getting the 6800 if I can get the names or numbers to display on my text messages. Anyone else having trouble receiving text messages that have no name from you contacts list or phone #.

If you did not let the customizations run, then you shouldn't be having text problems.

My GMail account is working better than all my others.
It allows me to receive HTML email & pics.
Looks awesome.
Make sure you have GMail setup for POP retrieval on their end.
Mine setup fine using the automatic process.

So you have the standard sprint splash screen now? All else fails, at least Sprint won't deny you service because of an unsupported rom.

What else have you done to your phone lately? Bootloader update? Radio? PRL?

Relax.
There is really no way to fry your phone by flashing a ROM. (Assuming you didn't disconnect it while it was in the middle of flashing.)
Have you tried flashing the original stock ROM? (available ath the UTStarcom site.) NOT the Sprint version of WM6 ROM!
Have you made sure that all of your USB cables are good and you're not connecting using a USB hub?
Have you tried the two different programs/steps for getting out of BootLoader mode (which is what it sounds like you are in)?
Are you using an XP or Vista computer? It sounds like this is working OK with Vista, but XP seems to be more reliable.
