Re: Apache WM6.1 Kitchen CE OS 5.2.19716 (Build 19716.1.0.0) - UPDATED 20080308

Wow, the battery really does drain fast. I'm using an extended battery and can barely make it through the day.

However, I've found something that seems to help. I've noticed that my EVDO connection, whenever it connects, stays open and active all the time. If I go in and disconnect the connection through the Comm Manager, it seems to help battery life tremendously.

Is anyone else experiencing that behaviour?

If you have battery concerns, I suggest installing acbPowerMeter. This will monitor battery usage. If you are averaging around 100mA or below you are doing fine. Battery usage is such a subjective observation unless you actually check the numbers. Many people are often surprised that the usage is usually the same.

I am trying to tether.
I do not see wmodem any more on my ppc.
I am trying to use internet sharing (hoping that it will do the same thing as wmodem), but once i enable that I do not find a USB modem in my Vista computer. do you know what the issue can be.

This doesn't answer your question directly but may help... I running this kitchen and am using an 8GB MicroSD card with the MiniSD adapter working with only a few issues.....
1. Some progams don't work properly because of the large size ex:O2 Meters
2. My two PC card readers can't read the card! Apparently the card readers need to be SDHC compatible.... Have not found one yet thought.... it a real pain loading large videos from revision3 via activesync

Wmodem.exe can be found in \Windows. There is also a wmodem.lnk there, just copy it to \windows\start menu\programs.

Then it will appear in your programs folder on the start menu.

You can use Wmodem OR ICS, but not at the same time. If you use wmodem, you must first close activesync on the phone (task manager), and on the PC (task manager..processes, "WCESmgr.exe and wcescomm.exe) Then start wmodem, and then plug it into your PC. Your PC should detect a new device and install drivers (XP).

EDIT: I forgot (sorry) to mention that you must install the drivers on your PC here http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35 (first post) not the drivers that XP trys to install. As far as disabling AS on your PC, there is an easier way, google for "activesync toggle", it is a small app which does this for you.

Make sure you start wmodem before plugging it into your PC, and set up a new dial-up connection using username 1234567890@vzw3g.com and pw vzw. (of course use your phone #) There's also a dialer prog "CDMA dialer.exe" you can find which you can run on your PC instead of setting up a connection.

If you use ICS, active sync must be running on your PC, and when you open ICS on the phone it will start AS on the phone. Make sure "allow USB connections" is checked under options on both the phone and PC.

good luck

Re: Apache WM6.1 Kitchen CE OS 5.2.19716 (Build 19716.1.0.0) - UPDATED 20080308

Hi All!

I am a newbie to ppcgeeks and to all it entails. So please forgive me if I post items that make me sound like a complete idiot, I don't mean to be dumb, I just don't know better
I CAN, however, PROMISE to search the forums before posting something new that was most likely mentioned in post #288 back in january of 2001, that is, when I am able.

With that said, a buddy of mine told me to come here to find updates for my ppc-6700, and this is one of the first ones I came across. It looks cool, but I didn't want to try to install it without due dilligence first, so my question is, is it okay to install this on my 6700? I'm on the most current firmware update.....

Welcome. You've come to the right place.

Not only is it OK to install this on your 6700, it would be pretty damn stupid not to.

I'd say definitely read about how to do it before you go flashing your phone though. And there's usually someone in the chat room to help if you have questions.

Thanks for that! I will most certainly read up on how to flash my 6700, i've already downloaded the file from the first page of this thread. It seems as though I need to get into the 'bootloader' from what i've read so far....don't worry, the dumb questions will commence shortly.....

Yeah... I'm averaging around 300 - 350 mA.
Is there a better program that will determine what power utilization by application (if possible)?

I'm thinking it's somehow connected to either:
- slide to unlock
or
- the fact that EVDO seems to always been connected.
(If I turn on the data-connect timer using advanced config, will it still do direct push for Exchage?)

Is that while you are running stuff or idle with everything closed? Obviously running apps will kill the battery faster. Also, your screen brightness will have an obvious affect on the battery life.
