Re: [How To] Essential jailbreak/unlock/ssh thread!

the bootrom is a failsafe system designed by apple on the 3GS to inhibit anyone from downgrading their OS. it makes sure you cannot install a firmware lower than your current one, nor a custom firmware. They had an exploit in the old one, but the new one is patched so u cannot downgrade the bootrom nor the OS till they handle the new one

alright so i found out i have the old bootrom by seeing my model which is MB, also checked by DFU mode...so i went ahead and followed those directions but when i attempt to restore the custom ipsw made by snowbreeze i keep getting an error message.

While the iphone 3GS is in recovery mode i get error 1604 and if i have in it DFU mode i get error message 1600. what am i missing? HELP please!

The error message is on the computer i had to restore to a OS4 ipsw but i still have the old bootrom. I have not been able to jailbreak like other instructions around the web state so I am basically just waiting for an easier way to jailbreak it when released.

I have found articles stating that the iphone 4 was jailbroken already a similar way to how spirit works so I am assuming they are getting closer to actually releasing a jailbreak.

Re: [How To] Essential jailbreak/unlock/ssh thread!

well, to do that they had to use some Apple code, and that is illegal since Apple owns the rights to their proprietary code, so thay cannot publicly release a Jailbreak.

If you def. Have to old bootrom then PwnageTool should work for you, I didn't include instructions for it in my How To because it gets a little complicated, but maybe I ought to just to help those who have a 3GS on an old bootrom.

Yes i did read that about the Apple code which sucks but they have definitely gotten closer so only time will tell.

I have searched several sites but this is the tutorial i used to check my bootrom: http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-che...iboot-version/

From that tutorial i found this on my iPhone 3GS: USB\VID_05AC&PID_1227\CPID:8920_CPRV:14_CPFM:03_SC EP:01_BDID:00_ECID:000003825A16BD4E_SRTG:[IBOOT-359.3]

so accordingly i have the old bootrom.

I used the snowbreeze method but like i said i was getting the error codes off itunes when attempting to restore the custom made firmware from snowbreeze.

From what i understand PwnageTool is Mac only and i do not have access to a Mac computer so I would not be able to go that method unfortunately. Right now i am just sitting back and waiting I am not in a huge rush but would love to be able to unlock this device before i leave this country.

Thank you very much for all your help!!

yeah i was actually mid putting up a how-to that uses that same method of the link you put up.

I don't understand what you're running into with the sn0wbreeze jailbreak.

Try it again, lol, it should work with the old bootrom.

remember, it is virtually impossible to brick an iPhone, if anything goes wrong just do a restore.

personally I think soon.

You can JB it now if you find someone with a mac and run PwnageTool on it since it does have the old bootloader though.
