Lol that's a first. I never expected anyone to say the wanted to use a bland interface before. Still, i can understand someone wanting more of a 'close' experience with their phone. What i don't understand what makes you choose wp7 over say an iphone? Microsoft is basically mirroring the user experience behind what apple has created.

It mirrors almost EVERYTHING about it. From the push notifications to the jacked up non expandable memory to the closed file system. They basically took a carbon copy of IOS and changed the interface to tiles and called it WP7. I mean you void your warranty by just changing the SD card for goodness sakes.. that has apple written ALL over it. Why do you think they'd go from winmo which was a pretty complex OS to an OS thats basically as locked down as fort knox? And ive toyed around with wp7 and im curious as to which areas it outshines IOS in. With everything being done via the "cloud" what happens when you're in a jacked up service area?

Re: Now that it's released, is WP7 worth it?
lets keep 6.5 alive for awhile OK?....like a year from now...I dont like that they hid a secret land of apps that pretend all the programs we have had for years never existed and you need an active phone number to get candy at the Microsoft windows 7 shopping mall...
I use my device to work, if that's what bland means, bring it on!! 16G's is perfect and I don't text or play games...... Last edited by Morningglory; 11-23-2010 at 11:13 AM. |

Re: Now that it's released, is WP7 worth it?
I got my Surround yesterday and set it up, so today is my 2nd day of using it (actually, it hasn't even been 24 hours yet).
The OS is growing on me. I can see both sides of this argument actually, and I hope with time, it'll just get better. I mean, look back at Android 1.0 and now 2.2. If Microsoft continues pushing updates out like Google does, it'll be one hell of an OS to compete with IMO. I don't mind not modding/tweaking my phone. Sure, it was a great way to waste time, and I can't count how many hours I've spent flashing my WM phones and my Android phones. My biggest complaint right now is the lack of apps. WP7 has only been available in the US for less than a month now, so I'm giving it time, but I do miss some of my Android apps that I got used to using everyday. I don't mind not having access to the file system. I've spent the last few days getting used to Zune on my PC and I don't mind syncing things through there. They do need to add some more functionality though, like backing up settings, syncing docs, etc. Maybe I'm missing something, but with Office, I don't see a way to edit files on my SkyDrive. They offer SharePoint services, but I don't have that. So I could create docs on my phone, but how do I get them off of it since I can't sync them with Zune or upload them to SkyDrive. Like I said, maybe I'm just missing this. So right now I'm just waiting for my favorite apps to get ported over...that includes an offline GPS solution like Garmin, TomTom, Navigon...something.

As amusing as the discussion has been to read, it's the people who actually own the devices that I like hearing from the most. People who are voicing opinions based on fact and experience rather than what they assume from debate.
mindfrost, how is your battery life thus far?

That's why I'm not with ATT. Besides... I believe that jacked up service is almost exclusive to iPhone. p. |

I'm at my mom's house now and the Surround is actually getting service here. My sister and bro-in-law have iPhones and they don't get any service here. I've brought the Nexus One, Captivate, Fuze (Touch Pro) here and they didn't work as well as the Surround is so far. The only one that is on-par was my Nokia E71, so that's saying quite a lot for reception for the Surround. I'm out in the middle of nowhere in the hills in Missouri, atleast 30 minutes from any town too. As far as battery life goes, its about the same as any other smartphone I've had. I charge it every night and so far its lasted me all day with moderate usage. |

Re: Now that it's released, is WP7 worth it?
Can you go online on the edge network comfortably? I only ask because my two brothers in law always bust out their iphones whenever they come to my house so they can connect to my wifi network to get their youtube fix. I show them my tp2 with wifi turned off and still getting my youtube fix without any issues. The last time I turned on my wifi was to tehther my netbook. So they say more bars in more places... But they neglect to tell you that the bars are just for calls... If you're lucky.
