I can tell you that's true. I'll admit that 3G coverage is poor compared to Verizon and Sprint since its not available on their whole network, but EDGE coverage has been available everywhere I go.

I'm at my mom's house now and the Surround is actually getting service here. My sister and bro-in-law have iPhones and they don't get any service here. I've brought the Nexus One, Captivate, Fuze (Touch Pro) here and they didn't work as well as the Surround is so far. The only one that is on-par was my Nokia E71, so that's saying quite a lot for reception for the Surround.

I'm out in the middle of nowhere in the hills in Missouri, atleast 30 minutes from any town too.

As far as battery life goes, its about the same as any other smartphone I've had. I charge it every night and so far its lasted me all day with moderate usage.
