he doesn't have a negative attitude, IMHO. what he has is simple curiosity of why things are the way they are around here. this site has such a problem with the legality of warez and yet they allow things to go on that's iffy. the situation i got involved in was the program to record conversation during a call. which in may states (i provided documentaion) is illegal. mine is one of them. the fine folks on the thread ended up crucifying me and calling me an idiot and all that other crap. basically the same thing that's happening here. i feel bad for the guy because frankly, both warez and tethering is stealing (unless you've paid for the plan). plain and simple. i could probably go through the software in this site and find many items that may not be illegal to own but are illegal to use. notice the distiction there. |

and how is coming into a thread 10 pages deep into it, and trying to make a claim i wont get answers/opinions, i think ive gotten a decent turn out so far, havent I?.. but id love more since its really a few people over and over, like myself and a few others and by all means remove yourself if you so feel needed, dont really see how thats relevant to the subject, or why u think thats some kind of harsh threat.. but feel free to excercise your right, to leave, edit, or delete anything u want... If me pointing out how we're all stealing is considered a negeative reply to everyones comments, well i guess i am... but its only hurtful, if your hurt by it, which you cant really be hurt by it, unless u AGREE to the concept of your stealing.. Re: Warez Vs. Tethering
all i have to say is this (i must've waited too long because my other post don't appear) but pam is there for a reason. we have pretty much exhausted this one. it reminds me of a thread i was in once: i was stating that you have to tweak and hack winmo phones to enjoy them. i got 50 replies that their phones worked out the box, they just made the sound louder, made the net quicker, made the phone prettier, etc. but none of them would admit that they used a hack or tweak! they just wanted to defend their position. so you might want to leave this one alone chef, everyone arguing with you are stealing and they hate ya for pointing it out. good luck soldiers!

Re: Warez Vs. Tethering
FRom Coz himself...
in case u think i modified it.. post 2 http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=5168 What we have here is a discussion between hard goods and services versus soft goods and services. Most of us would never try to stiff the plumber that just spent an hour snaking out our filthy clogged pipes. The plumber is providing a hard service. It’s tangible. You can see it. You can see the results. You can interact with the plumber, etc. Compare that against soft services and goods such as video files, audio files, and software that you get online. Most of us do not recognize these are as being tangible goods or services. Indeed, most of us just see the latest U2 song that we find online as a file worthy of being downloaded. It is lacking as a tangible good. It is essentially not real to us except when we play it on our computer, iPod, etc. Ironically, we wouldn’t go into a music store and steal the U2 compact disc. So what is the difference then between buying the cd at a brick and mortar music store versus finding it via LimeWire, etc.? The difference is the perception of what it represents. The difference is the perception of what the medium is. I freely admit that I have downloaded a boatload of songs off the internet. Now would I go to a music store and steal all of those cd’s? No. So what’s the difference? Again the difference is perception. I don’t see it as “stealing†when I download songs. To me it’s just a file. It’s not a tangible good. I have no association with it being real. I think software obviously falls into to that non-tangible category. It’s something that just goes on our phone/computer. Would we go to BestBuy and steal the latest version of PhotoShop? No. But if we can get a free upgrade or get the program essentially for free online why wouldn’t we do it? I’m not saying that we should “steal†from or “stiff†developers. What I am saying is that selling soft goods and services is fraught with its own limitations, etc. It’s the chance you take. Again…it’s all linked, I believe, to perception. late, Coz |

Re: Warez Vs. Tethering
ok. the results are quite interesting.. yes, they have in fact lowered the fee to $15. however, since i have a phone/data/text plan, i am ineligable for it. i was floored. i'm in the same category as the Everything Plan (is what i was told) and apparently none of the higher plans are eligable for it. so. i got pi$$ed and told the lady, f 'em, i'll patch the phone's software and do it illegally. she was beside herself. telling me how sorry she was that i have to hack to phone to get what i would gladly pay for. i also told her i was going only and recommending to everyone that would read my post to hack their phones.
now that being said, i still don't think it's any different than warez as far as PPCGeeks is concerned but i am going to do it. |
