Not sure if this is still possible. All the online sites including Sprint, make you choose a new plan before ordering. I was at Sam's club tonight, and he entered all my info and the steps after entering the esn of the new phone were choose plan and activate phone, so I said no thanks.

Re: Upgrading to Iphone on Sero

According to my friend who works for Sprint, in order to use any of the new smartphones on Sero, you have to upgrade to the Sero Premium plans, otherwise the phones won't work (the system won't even allow it). The Sero Premium plans cost $10 more, but if you choose devices like an iPhone or Galaxy the $10 Premium Data Add-on is automatically applied. But it doesn't require it on the HTC Arrive and some of the blackberries.

We know they won't let you Activate an android phone on the old $ 30 sero plan, although, trust me, they Will work(sprint just wants more money for the same service. )
I'm just wondering if I can use an upgrade discount, keep the old sero plan and not activate the phone!

You know somebody with the old Sero 500 plan on a later model android (not the Hero)? How did they pull that off? Or are you just saying that it's virtually the same plan? Yeah, true.... Sprint is trying to get more money from Sero users, but you can't blame them. They're a business, not a charity. And they don't make their profits from selling their devices (they provide a service). Either way... $50/mo for 500 anytime mins, unlimited mobile-to-mobile (to any wireless carrier) + nights and weekends and unlimited data is a steal. I'd be grateful if I had such a plan, lol!

Anyways, why not give it a try... go to a store or order one online. All the upgrade requires is that you sign a two year contract. Whatever you do to the phone is up to you. I usually use my upgrades and sell them on ebay.

Exactly, they provide the SAME Service for Sero $30 plan as the Sero $50 plan(Yeah I know you get anymobile, but with Pick 3 or Free Sprint to Home and Google Voice you get Free to mobile AND Landlines, and Google Maps has Free Turn by Turn Navigation.)

It's a steal if you're paying $79.99/month, not if your paying $30/month!

So, what's going here is that over the years I have been vigilant about NOT upgrading to an Everything Data package with Sprint. When I talk to customer service, they tell me such-and-such Android phone is "incompatible" with my old plan(Sero F&F 500). Same story with iPhone. Total BS. I set out to prove them wrong, and I did(at least with Android).

I sure hope not. I'll be clinging to my Sero plan until the bitter end. Where'd you get this information?

Good question. Google is your friend here. And don't forget Youtube. The device is simply stunning, and I'd love to have one, but the whole reason for keeping Sero is my nowadays limited budget(and oh yeah ripping apart their BS stories of certain phones being incompatible with Sero).

EDIT: I feel compelled to clarify something: Like Mr. gullzway above, the truth is I have a Samsung Epic 3G.

I can neither confirm nor deny that this is indeed possible!
