Re: [HOW-TO] - - Flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card

I don't post much (actually i think this is my first post), but I read alot on here, and I wanted to post that THIS SAVED MY BUTT!

I just took the plunge into unlocking my TP2, and i flashed the mightrom war on it. everything is good. I set my password lock for the screenlock. still good. then i noticed that you can set provisioning for your carrier. Well, I selected Sprint, restarted and BAM the lock password doesn't work anymore (invalid). I read that the only way to fix it is to hard reset. Thing is, i couldn't hard reset. I tried every combination, but it would always just show the screenlock page, not the white screen.

I couldn't even flash it via USB because it required to be unlocked.

Needless to say I read here how to get to the tricolor screen. Finally! So I tried the steps as seen in this page and thank goodness it reflashed it and now i'm back in business!

I just wanted to write this post so that if anyone else had such issues, that this is the solution!

Thanks again to everybody on these boards and on XDA. These are the reasons why I own a windows phone and not an iPhone.. for the customization!!

I was just thinking all of you that got stuck in loading... in your pc to usb setting did you have disk drive mode active? if so make sure it is set to active sync mode.

sounds like you flashed a gsm rom. i would flash back to stock rom by putting the stock rom nbh on your mem card and flash it. Or you can remove mem card then, with phone in bootloader mode, connect to computer and run the stock rom exe

Hey cornelious2..

I tried this method on my Touch Pro2 and it didn't work. I ensured the ssd card was correcttly formatted to fat32. sd card was also clean with nothing else on it. I have the Telus version. any ideas or suggestions to try?

Re: [HOW-TO] - - Flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card

can you explain what you did and what you saw as it didn't work?

the things I would double check are the naming of the file, the placement of the file (many people hear root of the sd card and make a folder named root by mistake), or make sure your usb to pc setting is set to active sync if you were in disk transfer mode that could screw things up as well.

It may be a bit late now but to just say... I tried flashing the recent mightyrom nbh file by naming it RHOD400.nbh (took it out using winrar) and couldn't get it to register on a blank 256mb card with nothing but the image file or a 2gb card with other files on it. Something pops up trying to read it and invalid but is gone in less than half a sec. Is it supposed to go to the gray screen and tell you to push the power button to flash it?

Well, here may be an example rom that just wont flash by just putting the sd in unless someone else has recent luck. BTW mine was made in SEP 2009 by manufacturer.

name it RHODIMG.nbh not ROHD400.nbh and try again

Re: [HOW-TO] - - Flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card

Quick question. Does the SD card have to be blank or can you have a bunch of other items in the root menu ie cabs, programs, photos etc.?

Also if you have multiple roms on the same card named differently. like the example was given above do you have to rename the rom RHODIMG each time you flash it then rename it to back to the name of the rom post flash?

cornelious2 02-17-2010 07:17 AM

Re: [HOW-TO] - - Flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card

you can have whatever else you want on the card, mine is quite full in fact.

as for multiple roms yes, as long as you store the roms either in seperate folders or rename them to be unique names there is nothing stopping you from having more than one. I actually keep stock, the latest rom I am using, and whatever rom I want to test at a bear minimum.

What I do is name them to keep them straight in my mind. so STOCK.nbh, MIGHTY.nbh, JUICY.nbh, etc. then when you want to actually flash one of them just name that specific one to RHODIMG.nbh and when your done name it back.

Re: [HOW-TO] - - Flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card

I went through the RhodiumW-HardSPL_V1_10R3_100HSPL process.

Then I downloaded Energy.RHOD500.21892.Sense2.1.16.Feb.2010 and queued up the visual tutorial linked to in the beginning of the thread (http://thewingster.com/howflashtp2romcdma.aspx).

I then copied the RHODIMG.nbh file to the root of my SD directory, turned off the phone, then held the volume down key while pressing the power button.

Unfortunately, it is at this point that I got the "No Image File!" message and then the bootloader just sat there. I reformatted the card in FAT32 with default allocation size in Windows 7, then copied the RHODIMG.nbh file to the root of the otherwise empty card, but with no luck. It is a NRGZ28 Energy rom and the file comes prenamed. I didn't have to rename it. And yes, I have my windows explorer set to not hide file extensions, so it isn't secretly named RHODIMG.nbh.nbh.

I don't have another microsdhc to try it with, otherwise I would. My current microsdhc is cheapo 8GB Poloroid class 2 or 4 that hasn't had any problems thus far.

Is there anything else I can try?

This is my first time flashing a custom ROM. I wouldn't mind just doing it from the computer but the NRGZ28 ROM didn't come with the Customruu.exe file. Can anyone point me in the direction of this file? I just want to get it flashed so I can start using my phone again, I'm not married to the idea of doing it off the SD.

Thanks!

can you pm me a link to which energy rom you are using. I will attempt to try it myself when I get a spare moment (durring lunch or after work as a worst case.)

Re: [HOW-TO] - - Flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card

same thing happened to me. i guess it just wont work with my card (i think 16gb adata). i flashed nrgz rom by downloading the rom utility on that thread. just search for it or it is about pafe 150. just unzip, open folder, drop the nbh in it and run the update rom utility as usual

Re: [HOW-TO] - - Flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card

over this afternoon I downloaded the energy rom, used pocket rar to extract it, and then it flashed no problem. Are either of you guys using sd encryption?

i dont think so. just reformatted with windows 7 default settings

Re: [HOW-TO] - - Flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card

if you have an sd card reader, try copying the file off the card (not in the phone) back to your computer. If it gains a .menc extension then you know its encrypted.

When I try This it tells me No Image File! and the it goes back to bootloader mode. So who knows why? or what did I do wrong? how can I get this to work?

cornelious2 02-23-2010 08:29 PM

Re: [HOW-TO] - - Flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card

basically it means it cannot locate the file, can you take a screenshot of the RHODIMG file on your phone and pm it to me? most common causes are misnaming, (first timers forget that the .nbh gets hidden on their phone explorer and "fix" it by adding it and thusly doubling the extension "RHODIMG.nbh.nbh"
Second most common error is people make a folder called root when the root of the sd card means not in any folders.
next most common error is transposing the h and the o naming the file ROHDIMG.nbh

the last thing if all of the above is not the cause is to reformat the sd card (but remember to backup the fiels first)

another thing a few people have done is enabling sd encryption (its a checkbox in settings easy to click and forget) this adds a .menc extension to the end of each files and will make the file not named properly AND make it so your files will all be lost if you hard reset and or flash a rom via another sd card.

Holy awesomeness! Cool. I should just get a 1GB microSD that I just use to carry around a bunch of ROMs with me now. Flashing as I type this right now.

it seems that option may not be there in 6.5 versions I will flash back to stock after I make sure I am backed up enough and get back to you tomorrow.

Re: [HOW-TO] - - Flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card

Thanks for your tips.
I've always flashed from the computer and wanted to give this a try but I'm encountering the same "No Image file!" when trying as well.
I even reformatted using the Neustorage manager program and used the computer's windows explored to check the name and extension.

Strange. I have a 16gb card and am using MRX Rom.

Re: [HOW-TO] - - Flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card

im in the talks with someone for possibly performing a revamp using an app to help with making sure the rom is named and properly placed. for now go here and try that it renames the rom, places it properly and enters bootloader for you.

Thanks

if you still have trouble try to find the sd card that came with the phone, I remember having issues with some of my cards back in my mogul days.

I'm sure I'm probably way off but I went to the link on the front page:

http://rhodiumw.htc-unlocks.com/hard-spl.php

And clicked:

Download newest RhodiumW Hard-SPL package here

Downloaded and when extracting the file my anti-virus software (AVG) popped up:

Threat Detected

File name: RhodiumW-HardSPL_V1_10R3.exe

Threat name: Trojan Horse Generic16.BUXZ

Re: [HOW-TO] - - Flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card

well its not a virus and also it is only flashable from the computer so thats kind of beyond the scope of this thread.

its no problem, but you can rest easy that you are not at risk unlocking.

Re: [HOW-TO] - - Flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card

Can't for the life of me get RhodiumW-HardSPL_V1_10R3.exe to run.

My account is the admin account. but getting: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." Any thoughts? And I already tried "run as" - "administrator"

Should mention I'm running XP SP3

cornelious2 03-02-2010 09:11 PM

Re: [HOW-TO] - - Flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card

again, this is beyond the scope of this thread the HSPL thread is the correct one for this question. however I had this same issue, the problem is running as an administrator rights account isnt the same as really running as admin you need to right click and select run as admin, also this gets expanded in that there is another self extracting exe below the first one that you need to do the same thing to. and when you do this you need to set it to always function that way then after you have both exes set you can run one more time with success.

correct, though when you unpack the rar file (or self extracting exe or zip etc.) you only need the .nbh file since the rest of the files are part of the RUU which is for flashing from the computer. other than that you were spot on with your assumptions.
