Re: HOW TO: flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card

this didn't work for me a few months ago, when i first tried it (got stuck in bootloader), but i want to revisit and try again. After step 3, do you put the newly named .nbh file back inside the .rar file or do you put both the rar and nbh file on your sd card?

Re: HOW TO: flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card

I just put the .nbh on the sd card root directory.

so you don't even need anything else in the compressed file? just the .nbh? That would be where I went wrong. OK, thanks gotta go try this NOW!

Re: HOW TO: flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card

correct you only need the .nbh file to flash

Re: HOW TO: flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card

I've tried this and in the past with my TP. For the guys having issues, do you have an SDHC card in your phone? I have an 8 gig that will never flash a rom from the card. I'm not sure why but it just refuses to work. I have a few old regular 1 and 2 gig regular SD cards and they will all flash seamlessly from SD. I don't know why but I remember this being an issue back in the TP1 days as well. I just keep an extra card with ROMS if I feel the need to flash but perhaps it's certain brands of SDHC? Again, I don't know but it has been the case with a few of my friends as well.

Re: HOW TO: flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card

I only flash from an 8 gig sdhc, you might just have a bum card, there or a really common thing is for peopel to think its formatted fat 32 when its really formatted fat, or people selected custom options when formatting and did not leave the defaults alone.

Just doing what I can since making a decent rom seems to be beyond my time constraints... funny how a wife and kid does that to your time constraints... LOL!

Re: HOW TO: flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card

Well, I just got it to work. I tried formatting the card with Windows XP and then transferred the file over to the card. The program I had said that it formatted the card using FAT32. But, apparently either the sector size was wrong. But, wanted to thank everyone! This is a VERY cool way to do your phone. :headbang:

This is so far the best ROM I have used as a Sprint user. It's fast, responsive, and have not ran into any "issues" and highly doubt Sprint themselves could create a better 6.5... Major Thanks!

Re: HOW TO: flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card

please refrain from posting "this rom is the best/sucks" posts here, this is just about a generic method to achieve a goal, lets keep this to issues with the act of the flash please.

Re: HOW TO: flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card

I am having an issue with the flash completing. That, or I am just being impatient. However, it gets through most of the process and then hangs with probably 1% left. It's been 5 minutes of it just hanging at the 1%

Edit:
Not sure what the issue was. But after a whole lot of trial and *massive* error (screwed up my new 18gig SD card) I was able to flash the stock ROM and then MightyMike's latest release.

Gonna see if I can't salvage my 18gig with a formating. My PC won't see it when I put it directly in, but the phone does.

How do I back up my contacts in my sd card so that they don't all erase after I try this?
And if I try this in school today, and get stuck on the multicolored screen, can i just take out the battery and it will be fixed? Or is it messed up till I get to a computer?

i would also like to know what are other alternatives to save contacts without the use of a computer. i normally flash lots of roms and i have to use the computer everytime to get my contacts. but when im at work i can get my contacts unless i bring my laptop. dont want to carry extra luggage.

Save the pim.vol file from the root of your device to your SD card. You can also get the program PimBackup which will save more than just your contacts (call history, favorites, texts, appointments, and more). It saves everything into one file that you can put onto your SD card to restore later. The program also has the ability to be automatically back up on a schedule that you set.

If you have any questions PM me, I think we have already derailed this topic enough lol.

yes to get a new radio you need to be sim unlocked, I haven't really noticed any reception gains over the stock sprint radio though.

Yea that's worried me too. But what I like about PPCPim is that I can back up more than just contacts and all into one file. What I would like to do (and I have yet to try to figure out) is find a way to have my PPCPim backup files automatically uploaded to something like google sync or some other way to have it save off of my phone.

after you back it up, just e-mail it to yourself as an extra measure.

Do you have to do the SIM unlocker is you are CDMA?

you only have to if you want to flash a non stock RADIO or use a GSM sim card and run it under att/tmobile, but there is no added signal benefit to the patched radios so I would say no you do not have to if you are planning to use your current carrier associated with the phone.

Yea, but I am thinking of something that will work automatically. PPCBackup runs automatically for me every night at 4am when I am most likely sleeping. I would like a way for that file to be auto sent by my phone somewhere right away. I would even settle for a separate program that I could set to run at 4:30am to send the freshly backed-up file.

Thanks though for that idea.

hey Cornelious

I used to flash all the time from my Storage Card with my TP. Weird, it's formatted, it's 8gb, but i get the same errors everyone else does. nbh is renamed, but it always says it can't find an image file. anyways, i've tried everything in the world, and have just accepted I can't flash with my card.

thanks for your help

One of the issues I ran into was that my card was not FAT32 formatted.

The other issue was that the .nbh file was not being named correctly, even though I would name it RHODIMG.nbh. Somehow when being transferred to my device via activesync explorer the file was being renamed to ~HODIMG.nbh or something like that (also once I remember finding that it was named RHODIMG.nbh.nbh). I had to keep toying with the file name and eventually I got it to see the file. I can't remember exactly what I did, but I know after toying with it repeatedly I finally got it to work.

Ummm, I did read the message. You said it was formatted but did not say if it was FAT or FAT32, it could have been either. One issue I had was that a 1GB card(my 16GB/FAT32 card was giving me issues) I was using to flash from was FAT vs FAT32 so I had to reformat it to FAT32 to flash from my card to resolve the issue.

You're welcome, just trying to help because it also helps me to learn new things.

cornelious2 02-05-2010 06:04 PM

Re: [HOW-TO] - - Flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card

I would recommend a reformat for this issue,

another thing is make sure you are naming it 100% the same I believe caps matters.

RHODIMG.nbh

the biggest thing people forget about is the dumbness of how file explorer hides extensions so if you see RHODIMG.nbh it is actually named RHODIMG.nbh.nbh

jshaas2 02-05-2010 08:04 PM

Re: [HOW-TO] - - Flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card

definitely did another reformat, that wasn't the issue.

so you are saying if we renamed it RHODIMG.nbh, explorer recognizes the nbh extentsion and leave it on there.

so now we are only supposed to name it RHODIMG?

cornelious2 02-05-2010 11:12 PM

Re: [HOW-TO] - - Flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card

what are you using to do the formating?

it is supposed to be named RHODIMG.nbh though the phones file explorer hids the extension so the most common error was people thinking the nbh dissapeared and mistakenly doubling up.

also what brand /class /size of sd card are you using? Maybe theres a brand pattern for people having an issue.

jshaas2 02-05-2010 11:36 PM

I just flashed to Sprint stock using a 1GB SanDisk Micro SD unknown class card.

Then after that...

I flashed to the latest MightyROM using a 16 GB SanDisk Micro SDHC Class 4 card.

It should be noted that:
1) the other day I was having issues with both of them (as described in my other post)
2) At some point or another I did end up reformatting both cards
3) My computer still does not like it when I place the 16 GB card (with the adapter) directly into my card reader. But the computer will read the same card when I connect my phone via USB (either with or w/o activesync).

cornelious2 02-06-2010 12:42 PM

Re: [HOW-TO] - - Flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card

ive stuck with sandisk and kingston and have never had issues with flashing, im thinking about getting a 16gb card, but im thinking its still a bit inconsistent with the builds currently.

@Jshaas2 I just thought about this, try flashing a rom from the computer if it works, then try flashing it from the card, maybe its your download that got corrupted.
