[HOW-TO] - - Flash a Rom or Radio and re-locking on your TP2 from the SD card
First and foremost you must be unlocked to flash any roms on your phone you can get the unlocker at this link http://rhodiumw.htc-unlocks.com/hard-spl.php Unfortunatly Due to the new process unlocking is not available via the SD card so you will have to find a PC if you don't have access to one.
If you are going to flash any of Cmonex's special patched radios you will have to be sim unlocked you can do this http://rhodiumw.htc-unlocks.com/ Again This has to be done with a computer. now once you get that piece out of the way we can get to the fun part, flashing a new rom without the aid of a pc. Similar to the mogul days and touch pro days, I have found flashing new roms much more convenient from the SD card than from the PC that way I could let my phone download the rom and then flash to a new version while I am out and about. Another added benefit is to be able to keep multiple roms on your SD card so you can test one, but still keep your standby at hand and not be locked to your computer. A pre-note to this process. Your SD card must be formatted fat-32 (not just fat) for this process to work. formatting your SD card will wipe out all information on it so remember to backup first! This is actually a really simple process. Step 0: READ THE WHOLE POST ESPECIALLY IF THIS IS YOUR FIRST TIME! make sure you turn off any over clocking as this has made the process function wierdly. Step 1: find the rom/radio you wish to flash and download it Step 2: extract the .nbh file out of said rom package (will usually be named RUU_SIGNED.nbh if the rom is packed in an exe use pocket rar to extract from your phone or 7zip/winrar from your pc) Step 3: place rom on the root of your SD card (meaning not in any folders) at this point you have two options I will keep the alternate path in green, If you want to use the app then skip the rest till you get to the green. Step 4: rename the .nbh file to RHODIMG.nbh Step 5: power down the device completely Step 6: hold volume down and power (end key on the Verizon variant) till the screen boots into bootloader mode (red green blue screen) Alternate path: download the app here there is a full guide in that link, but basically you install the app, and run it, it will find all of the roms you have on the root of your sd card, and based on what type of phone you tell it you have, it will rename it properly, and even has an option to put you into boot loader. Step 7: when prompted press power to flash Step 8: wait for it to finnish, sometimes it will restart on its own, sometime you need to restart it yourself but make sure you wait for the flash successful screen. That's all there is to it I will add to this as time goes on. Happy flashing! re-locking is on post 3 https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/websc...=H82G7AW4ZWC5Q |
Re: HOW TO: flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card
TROUBLESHOOTING:
most common causes are misnaming, (first timers forget that the .nbh gets hidden on their phone explorer and "fix" it by adding it and thusly doubling the extension "RHODIMG.nbh.nbh" Second most common error is people make a folder called root when the root of the sd card means not in any folders. next most common error is transposing the h and the o naming the file ROHDIMG.nbh make sure you turn off overclocking. The last thing if all of the above is not the cause is to reformat the sd card (but remember to backup the fiels first) another thing a few people have done is enabling sd encryption (its a checkbox in settings easy to click and forget) this adds a .menc extension to the end of each files and will make the file not named properly AND make it so your files will all be lost if you hard reset and or flash a rom via another sd card. |

RELOCKING:
Step 1: Flash the stock rom Step 2: **MAKE SURE TO READ ENTIRE POST BEFORE STARTING** Step 3: make sure you have the stock rom on one micro sd card and the relocker on another or an sd card reader to transfer the nbh files since your phone may stop booting past bootloader after the next step Step 4: flash the attached relocker like any other rom Step 5: flash stock one more time. attached is the relocker nbh to relock you flash like normal HOWEVER you will most likely get stuck in the bootloader (not be able to boot) at this point you only need to re-flash the stock rom and you will be back in order. razorloves keyed me into this working just like in my TP1 guide, I assumed based on what Cmonex told me it was impossible so I never looked into it further. |

pocket rar/7zip can extract most self extracting exe's as well.

Re: HOW TO: flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card
some people may be able to figure it out but just for reference on verizon tp2 i had to hit the display on/off button instead of the power button in order to flash
|
Re: HOW TO: flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card
can you tell me how the display on/off button is different than the power button? (the button at the very top left of the phone)

What is the difference between flashing by SD or the usual .exe?
I always flashed the .exe |

Re: HOW TO: flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card
ok. just tried this with new energy rom. extracted to root level of sd card. the .nbh file was already named appropriately so I just followed the steps. it went into bootloader like it was suppose to, but now it is just stuck in bootloader... What should I do now?
i suppose it would be nice if somebody responded soon before i pull the battery or something. a quick search about "stuck in bootloader" gave some steps but that sounded like i would re-lock the phone. thanks |
Re: HOW TO: flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card
honestly Ive never had it get stuck in bootloader. id try pulling the battery, or flashing again. is there an error code when you see the tricolor screen?
|
Re: HOW TO: flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card
no error. it said "serial" in the white color band ("usb" when i plugged it in). was stuck there for about 30 min before i fixed it. i plugged it in to pc and ran another rom. it flashed perfect. i will try to figure out what i did and get back

Re: HOW TO: flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card
sounds like he flashed it from a pc to fix it. ive yet to have that issue and i've flashed many roms this way im curious what is going on. which rom did you flash?
|
Re: HOW TO: flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card
I normally have no trouble flashing (I've done it a million times), but the new Nov 20 Energy Leo rom (28002) just won't flash. It keeps crashing (Vista 64 bit). So I tried the included nbh file, but I get the same error described above.

Re: HOW TO: flash a Rom or Radio on your TP2 from the SD card
try flashing a different rom than that one.

sure, or stock, or any other rom thats not the one that caused the issue. or are you up and running again on a different rom? if so maybe that download was just corrupted.

yea, I'm already on a flashed rom since late Oct. Just wanted to try out the new rom. I thought the download might be corrupted, so I tried again, but no luck. I guess I'll try later, or maybe flash a different rom just to rule out user error. :) |

When you flash, do you lose all programs and data installed to your device?

Thanks, if people are able to flash to multiple roms back and forth, how are they avoiding the setup time?
