On my prior phones(PPC6700 for example), there was an unlocker that got run and then the ROM's got loaded. From the beginning of this thread I see:

- sim unlocker: 10.5GBP for those who didn't contribute in the community (by donation or by other help such as hacks, tweaks, roms, etc)
and no, the sim unlocker will not be posted in this thread, it'll be hosted elsewhere
- sprint US networks: it needs more than sim unlock but we already solved it in theory, implementation is in progress

The SIM unlock page doesn't really explain when you need it or not. I just don't understand what it really does and why, and if there is more that must done, on top of this hard HSPL unlocker, before one can move forward with the ROM loading. I know this phone has a SIM, which is part of the 'World Phone' capability, but how does all that play into this conversation? I also read somewhere here about a 'security unlocker' but I'm not sure if that's the same or different than the SIM unlocker, and if/when that is needed.

What do you mean by freezing? Actually locking up, or just certain things bringing the phone to a crawl making seem like it's totally frozen? Because that sounds about right for my experience today.

In Auto mode, mine will lock up (freeze). In manual mode, it sticks at 0%.. From what I understand, the phone is not going into sspl prior to bootloader, thus causing the hang.

Per Note #3, the SSPL-Manual-Rhodium.exe should solve this. I have not been able to find this file on their site.

"NOTE 3: anyone having USB problems with the device after it already entered SSPL mode, please copy SSPL-Manual-Rhodium.exe from SSPL-Manual-RhodiumW.zip (available on our site), copy it to the device and run it. then once the screen has gone black, run the Hard-SPL package on the PC and you must select Manual flash option. *important*: make sure that the USB cable is plugged in and device is synced to Windows Mobile even if doing manual method."

From what I've read, the SIM unlock is only needed if you want to us US GSM providers on your TP2 (mainly for those on Sprint or Verizon wanting to use AT&T or T-Mo service). I guess that if the SIM is unlocked, you can use an AT&T SIM on a T-Mo phone and vice versa. If you focus is loading of cooked ROMs then, the HSPL unlocker will do the trick.
