From what I've read, the SIM unlock is only needed if you want to us US GSM providers on your TP2 (mainly for those on Sprint or Verizon wanting to use AT&T or T-Mo service). I guess that if the SIM is unlocked, you can use an AT&T SIM on a T-Mo phone and vice versa. If you focus is loading of cooked ROMs then, the HSPL unlocker will do the trick.
